Job Description Electrical Engineer (MEP) Location: Southwest Houston, TX Type: Full-Time | On-Site Position Overview A well-established MEP consulting and design firm in Houston is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design and execution of commercial and industrial building projects. This role is responsible for full lifecycle electrical system design-from concept through construction-across a diverse portfolio of facilities. Key Responsibilities Design electrical systems including: Power distribution (low and medium voltage) Lighting systems and controls Emergency and standby power systems Fire alarm and life safety systems Develop detailed engineering drawings and models using Revit MEP and AutoCAD Perform load calculations, short circuit analysis, and voltage drop calculations Specify electrical equipment including switchgear, panels, transformers, generators, and UPS systems Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, and architectural teams to ensure integrated designs Support construction activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and field observations Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards: NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and local jurisdiction requirements Prepare construction documents, technical reports, and cost estimates Incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design practices (lighting controls, energy code compliance, etc.) Stay current on evolving technologies and best practices in electrical design Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline 5+ years of electrical design experience in commercial and/or industrial environments Proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD Strong understanding of power distribution systems and electrical codes (NEC) Experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams Strong communication and technical documentation skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with complex facility types (healthcare, labs, data centers, manufacturing) Familiarity with: Arc flash and coordination studies (SKM, ETAP, or similar) Lighting design software (AGi32, Visual, or similar) Knowledge of backup power systems and mission-critical infrastructure Experience with BIM coordination workflows EIT or PE license (or working toward licensure) LEED accreditation or experience with energy-efficient building design Why Join Established MEP firm with a strong backlog of projects Opportunity to work on high-impact commercial and industrial developments Collaborative environment with experienced engineering leadership Clear path for career progression and technical growth
