Job Description
Primary purpose:
To provide electrical engineering subject matter expertise to support plan, design, implementation, and support of electrical systems for pipelines and clean energy projects. This includes Carbon Capture and Sequestration facilities, large pipeline and pipeline expansion projects and power generation facilities.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Lead the development of electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Review electrical equipment development: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and provide purchase recommendations.
  • Review electrical equipment vendor drawings, data interface with suppliers, other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
  • Lead and participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.
  • Applies expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
  • Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
  • Lead and review Quality of the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems.
  • Ensure that field inspections, installation, measurements are consistent with company standards and expectations.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
  • Interface with other technical/engineering disciplines to ensure the effective integration of electrical systems with the overall project design.
  • Review and manage projects in terms of economics, OSHA Safety, Engineering Standards, Construction Standards, Operating and Maintenance Procedures.
  • Specify key electrical equipment such as medium and low voltage switchgear and motor control centers, transformers, VFD's, Soft Start's, UPS systems, DC systems, protective relay protection schemes, etc.
  • Provide owners engineering support related to purchase specifications, technical bid evaluations, vendor document review, and factory acceptance testing for electrical equipment.
  • Develop and/or update Company Electrical Equipment Specifications and Engineering Standards.
  • Effectively prioritize workload between several projects.
  • Interact internally and externally with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct in all work activity and company matters of every kind.
  • Speak, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and careful listening.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to electrical engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:
  • 10+ years of experience designing and validating large scale facility design.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficiency in basic engineering skills.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge and experience in the design and electrical systems for large industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity and ability to read and interpret electrical one lines, three lines, and schematic diagrams, including flow charts, Piping, and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs).
  • Knowledge and experience in the design of electrical power and distribution systems for natural gas compressor stations, and/or refined products pump stations, and/or processing facility.
  • Medium and High voltage experience including equipment specification and sizing.
  • In depth knowledge of National Electric Code IEC, ISA, NEC, API, IEEE, etc
  • Ability to initiate and plan the design of lighting systems, power distribution systems, motor control circuits, grounding, motor drives, and secondary systems (fire and gas alarm, dc circuits, etc.)
  • Should be familiar with general substation design practices.
  • Effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including team members, project management, commercial, 3rd party EPC firms and other internal/external customers.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical matters.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.

  • None.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
  • Experience ETAP (develop one lines, load flow, motor starting studies..
  • Experience in arc flash studies including the use of relay coordination software (SKM, ETAP, etc.).
  • Specific knowledge related to the electrical/mechanical design of rotating equipment including engines, turbines, pumps, and electric motor drives.
  • Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
