What is an electrical engineer robotics?

An Electrical Engineer in Robotics designs, develops, and maintains the electrical systems that power and control robots. They work on circuit design, sensor integration, motor control, and embedded systems to ensure seamless robotic operation. This role often involves collaborating with mechanical and software engineers to create efficient and reliable robotic systems. Industries like manufacturing, healthcare, automation, and aerospace rely on these engineers to improve robotic performance and functionality. Strong skills in electronics, programming, and control systems are essential for success in this field.

What does an electrical engineer robotics do?

As an Electrical Engineer Robotics, your daily responsibilities often include designing and testing electrical circuits, collaborating with mechanical and software engineers to integrate robotics systems, and troubleshooting issues in prototypes and production units. You may also be involved in programming embedded controllers, conducting simulations, and ensuring that designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations. Regular meetings with project teams and ongoing documentation are common for effective project coordination. This blend of hands-on technical work and teamwork makes each day both varied and engaging.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrical engineer robotics?

To thrive as an Electrical Engineer Robotics, you need a solid understanding of circuit design, control systems, embedded programming, and robotics integration, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, PLC programming, microcontrollers, and certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or robotics-specific credentials is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, collaboration, and effective communication skills help you succeed in multidisciplinary teams. These competencies are essential for designing reliable robotic systems, troubleshooting complex issues, and advancing innovation in dynamic work environments.

Job description

About Fluidstack
We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it.
We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.
We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!
How We Operate
  • Extreme ownership. Full autonomy. Own things end to end often taking on scope outside your core role without being asked to get things done.
  • Velocity. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.
  • First principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.
  • Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.
Role Scope
  • Engineer controls for robotics in the data center: motion, safety, and integration with facility systems.
  • Own the robot control stack integration: fleet management, task dispatch, and telemetry into the platform.
  • Design the safety architecture: zones, interlocks, and functional safety for robots working among people and plant.
  • Commission robotic systems at sites and hold them to availability targets.
What We're Looking For
  • The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
  • You've engineered controls for robotic or automated systems in production.
  • You've implemented functional safety around robots: risk assessments and safety PLCs.
  • You've integrated robot fleets with external systems.
  • You commission on-site and debug across mechanical, electrical, and software.
  • You hold availability numbers, not demos.
  • Bonus: ROS or fleet managers. AMR platforms. Robot safety standards (ISO 10218, ISO 3691-4). Data center environments.

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
Fluidstack is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and protected veterans' status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
