Role Overiew:

We are looking to hire a detailed-oriented, driven, and resourceful electrical engineer to assume Design Engineering responsibilities for multiple (microgrid reliability as a service) Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of performing project and electrical engineering work - mechanical engineering experience is a plus. The position will report to the Director of Microgrid Engineering and will work a hybrid schedule based out of our headquarters in downtown Houston, TX.


Key Responsibilities:

Perform the following under supervision of Project Lead Engineer:


Project Engineering Coordination:

  • Coordinate technical aspects of the project.
  • Coordinate with electric utility companies for distributed generation service request and commissioning for the assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, stakeholders, and other disciplines in support of project completion.
  • Assist the Project team in meeting project goals including, but not limited to schedule, budget, safety, and overall quality.
  • Assist / guide Designers and junior Engineers in technical aspects of their work.
  • Identify, analyze, and manage technical risk on projects under direction of the Project Manager.
  • Provide engineering support, as needed, during the sales phase of the projects.
  • Conduct condition assessments of existing electrical systems.
  • Conduct site visits as necessary.

Project Design Packages and Applications:

  • Prepare, check and review detailed point-to-point project design packages for scope, completeness, constructability and quality.
  • Ability to create Project Design Packages including but not limited to one-line & layout drawings, electrical schematics, bills of material, and procedures (in accordance with applicable codes) with minimal supervision.
  • Create/Review equipment and material (i.e. switchgear, transformers, wire/cables, etc.) technical specifications for procurement and ensure they meet/exceed compliance with all project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Prepare Interconnect applications.
  • Supervise, review, and approve the work of third-party engineers and designers.
  • Create and maintain project specific documentation prior to, during, and following completion of the projects.
  • Create as-built design drawings.

Power System Studies:

  • Demonstrate the ability to do AutoCAD drawings and Power System modeling on ETAP.
  • Perform Load Flow, Short Circuit, Protection Coordination and Arc Flash studies.
  • Create relay protection setting .rdb files
Requirements:

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering
  • 5 years of combined experience in Electrical and Project Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good theoretical background of MV & LV electrical power distribution, MV & LV Switchgear, Transformers, power generators, grounding systems, cable installation, and power systems studies.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of NEC, ANSI/NEMA and IEEE standards for the above.
  • Power, Controls, and Utility systems experience.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office products (Project, Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point) & various pdf editing/mark up software.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects.
  • Effective written and oral communications.
  • Additional responsibilities may be added at the direction of Company’s management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with other areas to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete projects on a timely basis.
  • Ability to develop a good understanding of Company standards, practices and procedures pertaining to engineering and design.
  • Work with minimum supervision, be a self-starter, be able to meet goals and deadlines on own initiative.
  • Be self-motivated and able to maintain deadlines of assigned project deliverables, via reports from project management scheduling software.
  • Developing a good understanding of Company standards, practices and procedures pertaining to engineering and design.
  • The ability to drive all technical aspects of a project from cradle-to-grave with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to draft effectively & efficiently in AutoCAD, is highly preferred.

  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
