Electrical Engineer
Department: Electrical

Location: Victor, New York
Reporting To: Christopher Kambar
Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 / year
Description
APD is seeking a licensed (PE) Electrical Engineer in our Victor, NY office. This position will be responsible for the engineering of electrical systems for retail, restaurant, public infrastructure and facilities, recreation, education, and residential, with a heavy emphasis on multi-site retail design, including restaurants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design of electrical systems using AutoCAD or REVIT.
  • Develop construction drawings suitable for the public bidding of electrical systems.
  • Perform load calculations to determine building service size, power distribution, voltage drops, wiring size, lighting, and emergency power systems.
  • Populate panel schedules and generate risers and single-line diagrams.
  • Work closely with the design team to coordinate Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for power requirements.
  • Ensure NEC, energy, and NFPA codes and specifications are implemented.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and work in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Perform field visits to document and verify existing equipment and systems.
  • Construction administration duties include: answering RFIs, reviewing submittals, and resolving design/coordination issues with contractors.
  • Prepare due diligence and feasibility reports.
  • Attend virtual meetings with other consultants.
  • Comply with group and company standards and procedures.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Minimum Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in at least one state.
  • NCEES certified.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical design with knowledge of power distribution, fire alarm, data & communications, lighting, and emergency power systems.
  • Ability to complete projects without supervision and complete the QA/QC process.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in computer use and application.
  • Willingness to mentor junior-level staff.
  • 3+ years of AutoCAD education, training, or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in multiple states.
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous design experience with an MEP engineering consultant.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design with in-depth knowledge of power distribution, fire alarms, data & communications, lighting, and emergency power systems.
  • Solid experience with the latest version of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Proficiency in applying applicable NEC, NFPA, building, and energy codes requirements.
  • Ability to supervise and manage a department, including budgeting, business development, and staff management.
