Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Distribution Project Engineer to support the planning, design, coordination, and execution of electric distribution system projects. This role is responsible for managing engineering assignments related to new construction, system upgrades, maintenance activities, and customer service requests within the utility distribution network.

The ideal candidate will apply engineering and technical expertise to evaluate system capabilities, develop cost-effective designs, coordinate cross-functional activities, and ensure compliance with industry standards and company requirements. This position requires strong project management, communication, analytical, and customer engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and manage electric distribution system projects for new construction, maintenance, and infrastructure improvements
  • Perform engineering assessments and develop complex work order designs to meet customer and operational requirements
  • Evaluate distribution system capabilities to support new electrical loads while minimizing future system impacts
  • Prepare project estimates including labor, materials, schedules, and work types
  • Coordinate planning, scheduling, permitting, and execution activities with internal departments and external stakeholders
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support project management activities including tracking, reporting, negotiations, and performance monitoring
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
  • Participate in process improvements, technical training, and operational support initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish project requirements, budgets, and delivery timelines
  • Provide technical guidance and support for complex engineering issues and field operations
  • Support storm restoration activities and work extended hours when required
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field
    OR High School Diploma/GED with equivalent utility engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • Electric utility or distribution systems
    • Engineering project coordination
    • Customer interactions and negotiations
  • Electric Power Technology Certification preferred
  • Strong understanding of electric distribution system design and utility operations
  • Experience with project management, estimating, and engineering documentation
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
