What is an electrical account manager?

Electrical Account Managers are professionals responsible for managing and growing relationships with clients in the electrical industry. They serve as the main point of contact between their company and clients, ensuring customer satisfaction, identifying new business opportunities, and coordinating with internal teams to deliver solutions. Their role often includes sales, project management, and technical support related to electrical products or services. They play a crucial role in maintaining long-term client relationships and achieving sales targets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an electrical account manager?

To thrive as an Electrical Account Manager, you need a solid understanding of electrical products and services, sales experience, and often a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, inventory management systems, and basic electrical design tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial for effectively managing client accounts, driving sales growth, and ensuring customer satisfaction in a competitive market.

What are the typical challenges faced by an electrical account manager when balancing technical client needs with sales targets?

Electrical Account Managers often navigate the challenge of aligning client-specific technical requirements with the company's sales goals. Clients may have complex electrical systems and unique project specifications, requiring the Account Manager to collaborate closely with engineering and technical teams to ensure proposed solutions are both feasible and competitive. Additionally, they must build strong relationships with decision-makers while staying up-to-date on industry trends and product innovations. Successfully managing these dynamics can lead to increased client satisfaction and long-term account growth.

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is a leading power engineering consultant firm that provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials throughout the U.S.
ECI is seeking a motivated and experienced industrial electrical engineer supporting multidisciplinary industrial project delivery to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on challenging industrial, utility, renewable energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure projects while collaborating with some of the industry's most respected engineering professionals. At ECI, engineers and technical professionals do more than develop designs - they solve complex technical challenges, support critical infrastructure, and help clients achieve reliable, safe, and efficient operations.
This position offers broad exposure to industrial power, controls, instrumentation, and automation projects with room to grow into technical leadership, project management, or subject-matter expertise. Tasks may include but are not limited to:
โ€ข Developing electrical design packages for industrial facilities including power distribution, motor controls, grounding, lighting, instrumentation, and control systems.
โ€ข Preparing single-line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, loop diagrams, specifications, calculations, and construction documents.
โ€ข Supporting power system studies including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, protective device coordination, and arc flash analysis.
โ€ข Coordinating with clients, vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver practical, safe, and reliable designs.
โ€ข Participating in field investigations, construction support, testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
โ€ข Producing clear calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Minimum Requirements: BSEE, BSEET or MSEE preferred; BSME, BSMET or other degrees with significant heavy industrial controls and automation background will be considered; 4+ years direct experience in industrial automation, power or process control or combination of education and experience; P.E. preferred; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organization and planning skills; ability to work in a team environment; commitment to quality and accuracy; and a willingness to meet fast-paced project schedules. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial power distribution, controls, instrumentation, and automation systems and a working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA, NEMA, and applicable client standards. The successful applicant may be subject to client-mandated drug and background checking. Occasional travel/driving is required; therefore, the successful applicant will be subject to ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements. Applicants must not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status) now or in the future.
Salary commensurate with experience and education. Benefits include:
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Health savings account
  • Life insurance
  • Disability insurance
  • 401(k), profit sharing and employee stock ownership plan
  • Paid vacation, personal days and holidays
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Continued professional education reimbursement

(ECI) employs over 850 engineers, designers, project managers, surveyors, ROW agents, environmental planners, construction professionals and support staff in 37 offices across the U.S. The firm has more than 40 years of experience in the planning, engineering, and construction of a wide range of power delivery projects including substations, transmission lines, distribution systems, communication systems and industrial facilities.
