What is an Electric Meter?

An electric meter is a device installed by utility companies to measure the amount of electrical energy consumed by a residence, business, or electrically powered device. These meters track energy usage in kilowatt-hours (kWh) and are typically read monthly to determine billing. Modern electric meters may be analog or digital (smart meters), with smart meters offering features like real-time monitoring and remote readings. They play a crucial role in energy management and billing accuracy.
