Job description

Job Summary This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer. NATURE OF WORK Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty installing, configuring, testing and monitoring elections and voter registration computer and communication systems, and associated peripheral devices; works directly with elections and voter registration staff, supporting all technical functions of both divisions; this position has department specific responsibility.

Nature of Work (Illustrative Only) Programs, configures, tests and monitors stand-alone computer systems, associated peripheral devices and data communication systems to ensure optimum use and performance; responsible for the planning and deployment of election equipment to vote centers, including in-person early voting; assists users with procedures, configuration, and use of election equipment; assists with creating training modules and content for the training website; notifies users and vendors of system problems, initiates corrective action and performs follow up to ensure proper resolution; uploads and prepares election programs on voting devices and makes minor repairs on election equipment; participates in community events to promote and encourage voter participation; records audio and makes adjustments to the election management software in order to conduct each election; sets up and tests any election equipment including computer configurations, operating systems and system software upgrades; modifies system configurations based on user requirements; maintains up to date inventory of all election equipment, computer systems and any peripheral devices in assigned areas; analyzes and resolves performance problems involving all election equipment; assists poll workers on Election Day with technical operation of voting equipment and/or election procedures; assists with programming and network of election management software; leads and trains temporary election workers; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned. Experience and Education High School diploma or GED; and two years of progressively responsible experience in an office setting with PC operation; familiarity and experience with Outlook (Exchange) e-mail and Microsoft Windows and Office products; and one year of experience in an election department OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must successfully complete and maintain the Secretary of State's Election Official Certification as prescribed in state statute within two years of being hired; must be available to work an irregular schedule, if necessary, to include evenings, weekends and holidays in consideration of election cycles; must be a registered voter of Yuma County; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license; requires successful completion of a background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: County policies and procedures, computer hardware and software use, installation and configuration; techniques for setting up and testing PC operating and data communication systems; operation, maintenance, installation and performance capabilities of hardware and software related to election systems and networks; security systems procedures and access controls; telecommunication equipment and peripheral devices. Skill in: Comprehending technically complex verbal and written instructions; operating and maintaining computer systems, and related peripheral equipment and devices; installing, configuring and testing system and application-level software and upgrades; analyzing hardware and software related malfunctions and determining effective solutions; effective customer-oriented service techniques; interpersonal communication with other ITS and County personnel; organizational and documentation. Ability to: Plan, prioritizes, manages and responds to multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; read, write, research, synthesizes data and detailed reports; use modern office equipment and computers; communicate effectively verbally and written; lift up to 5 - 25 lbs; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without reasonable accommodations.

Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
