Position: Middle School ELA Teacher


Role Description: 

As an ELA Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective literacy instruction to students in grades 5-8. You will create a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters a love for reading and helps students develop strong critical thinking and comprehension skills using the standards-based Reading Reconsidered literary curriculum.

Responsibilities: 

  • Embody & Élan Academy’s mission, vision, and values;

  • Participate in an annual summer staff orientation and training;

  • Plan and deliver comprehensive literacy  lessons aligned with state standards and curriculum objectives

  • Incorporate various teaching strategies, including hands-on activities, technology integration, and differentiated instruction, to cater to diverse learning styles

  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.

  • Implement classroom management techniques that promote positive behavior and encourage student participation.

  • Monitor student progress through regular assessments and provide constructive feedback to support academic growth.

  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and support staff to ensure student success.

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.

  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities to enhance subject knowledge and teaching methodologies.

  • Create and maintain an organized and stimulating classroom environment conducive to learning.

  • Participate in weekly coaching meetings. 

  • Work collaboratively with Scholar Support Teammates to ensure all student accommodations and modifications are implemented with fidelity. 

  • Actively track, celebrate, and respond to student data. 


Qualifications: 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field 

  • Valid teaching certification in the appropriate subject area and grade level preferred

  • Excellent knowledge of the science of reading concepts and effective teaching practices

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for extended periods.

  • Ability to assist students with physical tasks as needed.
