Our corporate office in Livonia, Michigan is currently seeking and OHS/EHS Supervisor to join our Food Safety team! The Occupational and Environmental Health & Safety (OHS/EHS) Supervisor will provide managerial support and subject matter expertise to ensure appropriate OHS/EHS systems and resources are in place throughout our locations in the US and Canada at Mastronardi Produce. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; manages all aspects of environmental, health, and occupational safety programs; and drives continuous improvement in risk reduction, incident prevention, environmental performance, and safety culture. The role will advise facility management on OHS/EHS matters, create OHS/EHS plans to ensure conformance with regulatory and company requirements and through education, training and a cooperative approach, drive the understanding and implementation of the company OHS/EHS policies.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Coach and counsel location leaders to instruct them of and assist them in the execution of their OHS/EHS accountability to derive a Zero Incident Culture.
  • Develop and integrate specific OHS/EHS processes and procedures in support of company-wide initiatives and direction.
  • Assure competency and quality of facility level OHS/EHS resources, develop and mentor talent and promote knowledge transfer through teams, best practices, and continuous training.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations across all assigned sites.
  • Track OHS/EHS obligation and requirements at our facilities. Provide reminders, support and escalate as needed to ensure completion and compliance for all OHS/EHS requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies across all environmental media.
  • Establish and monitor OHS/EHS performance metrics/KPIs to track progress and influence strategic decisions.
  • Drive facility execution of tactical and strategic initiatives to eliminate hazards, reduce, and eliminate risks and drive continuous OHS/EHS performance improvement.
  • Support the director in overseeing the safety training and education of employees and customers and ensure the scheduling, presentation and completion of required safety and environmental training programs and the maintenance of training records and documentation.
  • Provide specific solutions to ongoing OHS/EHS-related issues and participate in the investigation of significant OHS/EHS incidents to ensure timely and complete implementation of reports to work toward improvements for corrective actions.
  • As assigned, lead internal and external OHS/EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions across all facilities for compliance and building safety, recommend corrective actions and opportunities for improvement to GM's, department managers, facilities, and corporate management. Support facilities testing and evaluations of workplace hazards.
  • Provides consultative support internally to Human Resources (HR), Legal and operations personnel on workplace accidents, injuries, illnesses, and safety and acts as a key channel for ensuring timely communication of significant facility activities and events.
  • Manage the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Response Teams.
  • Help coordinate and facilitate monthly Safety Steering Committee Meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Background Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline (occupational safety, environmental science, or engineering or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years of environmental, health & safety experience managing OHS/EHS programs and solutions in a multi-facility environment.
  • Experience working in diverse production and distribution settings.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 30 (General Industry), DOT, EPA, and other relevant regulations and/or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) training.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience managing and working with all levels of the organization at multiple locations.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OHS/EHS management systems and their implementation, including experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to communicate with all levels of the organization, government agencies, and other outside entities.
  • Strong substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by federal and state OSHA, OHS/EHS management systems and workers' compensation requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize projects to deliver high-quality work by the deadline.
  • Ability to travel regularly to facilities.
  • Ability to see possibilities, offer solutions, apply critical thinking, and employ creativity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently, and demonstrate self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily works in an office environment with some travel to Mastronardi Distribution Centers and Farms in the US and Canada as assigned.
