Job description

Position OverviewGENERAL PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this position is to manufacture RxD dispersions at the COUS site.

The Production Operator must be responsible to perform all manufacturing activities within all EHS, quality, and corporate guidelines on a right-first-time basis.  The operator is independently responsible for manufacturing activities and priorities, following all appropriate training programs, complying with all documentation within the department (i.e. SOP's, process logs), and effectively communicating with other operators as well as supervision and other departments.  In addition, the Production Operator will perform routine manufacturing cleanouts and equipment changeovers, monitor in process and post batch data, and operate the process control systems to effectively run the plant. A strong understanding of the process chemistry and equipment, including potential problem analysis, is critical to ensuring high quality dispersion is produced in a safe and cost effective manner.

The Production Operator accomplishes these goals while striving to maintain an atmosphere of involvement, continuous improvement, EHS, and right-first-time manufacture within the operations team. This position reports to the Work Station Manager for RxD.

The Production Operators will work rotating shifts to support 24/7 manufacturing. In addition to the listed responsibilities, the position may be required to perform other duties upon request from management.

Job Description

KEY RESULT AREAS/DELIVERABLES

Key deliverables for the position include the following:

  • Safely operate the production unit in compliance with site, company and regulatory requirements.
  • Effectively work with the rest of the manufacturing team to deliver business objectives and targets.
  • Monitor operational performance to maintain or improve quality, cost and productivity.
  • Routinely participate in Continuous Improvement and particularly 5S in normal operations practices. Ensure personal compliance with all training and support other members of the team in doing so.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures and help keep them up to date and accurate through effectively communicating operator comments and input.
  • Follow the company's adopted Quality, Safety and Environmental management systems and procedures.
  • Work with the entire manufacturing team to uphold the pillars of Operational Discipline: Questioning Attitude, Level of Knowledge, Forceful Watch Team Backup, Formality, Integrity

Safe production with no incidents or accidents

  • Demonstrate a high regard for your own personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Ensure full compliance with all EHS procedures and policies to deliver compliance with regulatory and site requirements. Follow procedures to ensure compliance with hazard study controls.
  • Be responsible for individual and team safety performance. Understand key performance indicators (KPIs) and respond to anything that requires action.
  • Log and participate in investigating any near misses or incidents to support identifying root cause and opportunities for improvement working within established systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 14001.
  • It is strongly encouraged to be trained as Emergency Coordinator / Contact onsite to handle emergency situations (injuries, spills, fires, etc.).

Delivery of agreed volume

  • Be flexible and responsive to help ensure sufficient level of resource is in place at all times to deliver required production
  • Stay fully trained and validated in all areas of operations. Follow defined training paths and take initiative to seek additional training.
  • Participate as needed during plant outages to accomplish production maintenance tasks, PM's and projects.
  • Identify and communicate daily plant maintenance needs to maintain a safe, efficient operation by submitting work orders as needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement program to bring forward suggestions to improve and optimize the production process.
  • Follow the production schedule to deliver on time and in full product in a right first time manner.

Manufacture right first time to correct quality

  • Participate in the investigation of any quality near misses or failures, identifying root cause and opportunities for improvement. Implement follow up actions as required.
  • Assist in review of technical issues, contributing where possible to improve overall performance of processes and plant. Especially contribute manufacturing observations that may be relevant to troubleshooting, identifying root causes, and solving problems.
  • Manufacture to high standards to ensure customer product requirements are achieved and Customer Satisfaction is maintained.
  • Follow procedures and pay attention to detail to provide error-free operation and batch production.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and all site QA policies.
  • Maintain compliance with GMP manufacturing policies.

Manufacture to agreed cost

  • Report any issues with unit equipment to key functions for action to help maintain efficient operation.
  • Understand key manufacturing costs to help stay within Cost Center budgets.
  • Actively identify opportunities to improve plant performance, reduce waste or reduce costs through participation in the CI program.
  • Minimize waste of raw materials, utilities, and finished product by following established SOPs and guidelines.
  • Report accurate consumptions of materials.

Production Operations Teamwork

  • Foster teamwork as well as ensuring individual accountability.
  • Comply with FUJIFILM Imaging Colorants, Inc. policies, procedures, and management directives.
  • Provide input for your personal development goals and training desires.
  • Appropriately manage all personal leave to support production while offering little to no interruption to full manufacturing coverage.
  • Communicate in an open, fair, and respectful manner at all times with peers, supervision, and other functions on or off site

EXPERIENCEEssential

  • 2-5 yrs manufacturing experience preferably within a chemical environment
  • Proven ability and desire to learn new processes and operate them independently and correctly.
  • Strong understanding of EHS requirements associated with chemical manufacturing
  • Experience using Standard Work Processes along with Operational Discipline Principles
  • Good understanding of GMP with regard to printing ink and dispersion manufacturing
  • Solid basis of knowledge in Continuous Improvement tools and problem solving
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and actions.
  • Effectively manage conflict, be continuously alert, proactive and capable of responding to any problems that occur within the range of responsibility. This includes prompt & effective action in abnormal situations to minimize product loss or personal injury. 
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations as required by the process instructions to ensure accurate additions of raw materials.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use automation systems such as PLC, HMI panels, etc to operate the process.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office and other computer tools for word processing, spreadsheets, and other computer based tasks

  • Understanding of Quality Systems and ISO registrations

  • Experience with mechanical equipment such as pumps, filters, mills, centrifuge, packout equipment
