Job description

Position Overview:

We seek a qualified and experienced Transportation Safety Manager to lead our transportation safety management processes. This role will guide our fleet and transportation operations to maintain a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement. As a key leader, you will collaborate closely with our Risk & Safety Manager and Transportation Operations leadership to create both short- and long-term safety strategies.

What does your day look like? Some of your duties may include:

Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including FMCSA and OSHA standards. Maintain oversight of driver qualification files, the hiring and selection process, hours of service accuracy, and DOT drug/alcohol program compliance.Crash Management: Lead our crash management process from incident reporting to investigation and documentation. Maintain accountability standards for preventable accidents and provide detailed monthly reports and scorecards on safety performance.Training & Development: Design and deliver training programs for drivers and transportation managers, including in-vehicle training, load securement, mirror placement, and close-quarters maneuvering. Mentor managers in safety protocols and conduct accident investigation training.Audits & Inspections: Conduct DOT compliance audits, maintenance audits, and site self-inspections. Ensure alignment with FMCSR regulations and maintain oversight of 3rd party administration compliance.Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze CSA Basic Scores and roadside inspection reports to identify trends and improve performance. Coach and support transportation management in resolving roadside inspection issues.Leadership & Influence: Guide the team in understanding safety performance metrics and help shape a safety culture through regular safety meetings, accident reviews, and safety celebrations.

Things you need to be able to do:

Education: A bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or a related field is preferred.Experience in transportation or safety management, with a proven track record in regulatory compliance, driver training, and safety program management.Knowledge: Strong understanding of FMCSR regulations, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards, and transportation safety best practices.Technical Proficiency: Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and analytical toolsSoft Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and team collaboration abilities. Proven capability to coach, mentor, and develop both managers and drivers.Leadership: Ability to lead within a matrixed organization, influencing across teams to drive safety and performance improvements.
