About This Role

The EHS Assistant Caregiver/Cook is responsible for assisting the Caregiver in conducting a classroom in a way that exemplifies the Early Head Start goals of providing children with educational experiences that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. The Assistant Caregiver/Cook works with all service area and classroom staff to ensure successful, nurturing experiences for children in the Center, while recognizing the parents as the most important influences in the lives of their children. Assists with serving meals in a safe, timely, and attractive manner and that all costs associated with the preparation are adequately tracked. This individual is also responsible for adhering to USDA, Virginia Health Department regulations and Head Start performance standards. This position requires regular and punctual attendance. Works towards ROMA goals.

  • Completes all required paperwork as required by USDA, Director of Child Health and Family Services, and Education/Nutrition Coordinator
  • Maintaining confidentiality and respects individual family lifestyles and values
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with Head Start preschool staff and parents
  • Communicates and problem solves with Education/Nutrition Coordinator
  • Performs all other duties as needed

Requirements
  • High school graduate
  • Possesses a GED certification
  • Experience in food preparation and menu planning
  • Must submit to fingerprinting, CPS check, DMV check, criminal background check, and pre-employment Drug/Alcohol screening
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
