Division Information
The Home & Garden business unit of Spectrum Brands is based in St. Louis, Missouri with distribution, manufacturing and sales offices throughout the US and globe. We are a leading supplier of consumer products nationally for the home, lawn and garden, insect and weed control markets. This position is based onsite at our manufacturing facility in the St. Louis, MO area (Vinita Park). Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Job Summary
The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager will manage environmental, health, safety, security, and workers compensation issues for United Industries' Home & Garden Division at the Vinita Park Facility. This position will play a key role in providing a safe and healthy workplace for each of our employees while ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead the facility's environmental, health, safety, and sustainability initiatives in alignment with local, group, and corporate objectives.
  • Manage safety performance and reporting through electronic EHS Safety Management Systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations; represent or support representation of the company in all regulatory interactions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver training programs for managers and employees on key safety and environmental topics, including fire prevention, lockout/tagout, hazardous waste handling, spill prevention and control, chemical hygiene and safety, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and hazard communication.
  • Serve as a key leader on the plant Safety Committee, facilitating safety initiatives, campaigns, and communications.
  • Oversee site emergency action planning, including collaboration with local Police and Fire Departments and coordination of emergency drills.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) standards, including scheduling Process Hazard Analyses, submitting Risk Management Plans, and training affected personnel.
  • Conduct EHS audits to evaluate compliance and identify improvement opportunities; communicate findings to site and corporate leadership and drive corrective actions in partnership with employees.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain all required environmental reports for federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Compile, analyze, and submit safety and accident statistics to internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Support the workers' compensation program by providing incident data, leading investigations, recommending corrective actions, and facilitating return-to-work or modified duty plans to reduce lost time.
  • Demonstrate and promote Spectrum Brands' core values-Trust, Accountability, and Collaboration-to drive service excellence, achieve organizational goals, and support fiscal responsibility.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience Profile
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Engineering or equivalent field of study preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an EHS role with demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental health and safety regulations required.
  • Manufacturing facility experience is required.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management/Risk Management Planning a plus.

Work Environment
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Approximately 50% office and 50% in the manufacturing facilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to forklift traffic and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions as well as hot and cold environments. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and flammables. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Must have the ability to complete a hands-on mechanical machine operational test as well as a written test.
