Role Overview:

The Transmission Senior Associate will be responsible for power system transmission analysis and SECD modeling supporting operations and development. The focus will mainly be on LMP and congestion analysis to help shape congestion hedging efforts while working closely with operations and asset management. You will track regulatory developments in assigned markets in order to advise the project team in handling all transmission-related issues and minimizing potential risks for the company.

Main responsibilities:

Perform transmission modeling and SCED analysis using Dayzer, PSS/E (or other) and provide congestion and basis forecast to formulate FTR/CRR bidding strategies in support of asset operations and optimization
Track transmission and generation outages/upgrades and use the necessary tools to model them and evaluate the their impact
Provide transmission strategy and guidance to developers
Proactively work to ensure that changes in market rules will favor EDPR's portfolio
Work with project developers to ensure each project has adequate transmission or the access needed to ensure competitiveness
Support Market Operations and the rest of the Energy Management team in all transmission-related matters
Mitigate transmission risks within EDPR's portfolio
Work with negotiations staff to answer transmission-related questions
Responsible for transmission procurement in primary and secondary markets
Perform transmission load flow and LMP analysis and run models of the ISO system to determine impact on EDPR's wind portfolio
Analyze, forecast, and provide guidance regarding Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), forward prices, transmission congestion, and LMP basis price spread
Represent EDPR's interests in regional meetings
Manage EDPR's TRS queues and TSR portfolio
Additional duties as required

What are we looking for
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics or Engineering, Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years in the utility industry; generation interconnection experience preferred
  • Must have experience in nodal markets and LMP forecasting tools (Dayzer or UPLAN, Promod, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of FERC, OATT, OTD, RTOP, and NERC policies
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Thorough knowledge of PSSE and Power Flow software
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project preferred
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise (Preferred)
Travel:

Up to 10%

  • Ability to deal with complex issues from a high theoretical level to implementation details (e.g., ability to understand technical standards and how they will eventually impact commercial activity)
  • Ability to work with EDPR's leadership team to align the transmission strategy with the overall corporate strategy
