About the Role

We are seeking an Editorial Director to lead our editorial vision and processes, ensuring theological alignment, brand cohesion, and overall excellence across all written products. This role will work closely with the Directors of Content and Design and be responsible for overseeing the editorial pipeline from concept to publication.

Ideal Candidate

You are a theologically grounded editorial leader who can confidently guide both content strategy and execution. You bring strong experience managing teams and building efficient editorial processes, ensuring high-quality, consistent output from concept through publication. You combine sharp editorial judgment with organizational leadership while maintaining doctrinal integrity and a consistent brand voice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required; Masters in Theology, English, or related field preferred
  • Deep theological understanding aligned with TDGCs statement of faith
  • 5+ years in writing, teaching, or editorial roles
  • 5+ years in leadership or management
  • Strong attention to detail and editorial process development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in publishing or Bible study content is preferred
  • Understand how AI integrates into your role based upon acceptable industry standards

Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership
    1. Guide the long-term editorial strategy to align with TDGCs business strategy, brand positioning, acquisition objectives, and publishing goals.
    2. Collaborate with the Strategy Team on product strategy, development and implementation.
    3. Participate in the Leadership Team and Strategy Team.
  2. Team Oversight & Development
    1. Lead and develop a team of editors and writers by providing feedback and accountability; ensuring deadlines are met.
    2. Improve editorial speed and title-level profitability by managing editorial timelines, labor allocation, freelance costs, and rework budgets in coordination with Finance. Department.
    3. Maximize efficient handoffs both inter- departmentally and cross- departmentally through a high level of accountability, quality, and proven results.
    4. Provide training and development plans for all team members.
    5. Facilitate weekly check-ins, team meetings, and performance reviews.
  3. Editorial Standard of Excellence
    1. Develop and implement an editorial scorecard and workflow that implements industry best practices to guarantee both efficiency and quality.
    2. Oversee the development of all written content to ensure theological accuracy, biblical integrity, and a clear, engaging structure that aligns with TDGCs mission.
    3. Review and approve outlines and final proofs.
    4. Establish and enforce editorial standards and style guides across all content and in all stages of the product development process.
  4. Project Management
    1. Work closely with content, design, marketing, and operations teams to ensure cohesive messaging and seamless execution of various deadlines for approximately 70 new titles per year.
    2. Oversee the editorial calendar, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.
  5. Other Duties as Assigned
