How does an economics consultant typically collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams during a project?

Economics Consultants work closely with both clients and internal teams such as data analysts, legal experts, and industry specialists to deliver data-driven solutions. They begin by understanding the client’s objectives, then coordinate with subject matter experts to gather relevant data and perform economic analyses. Throughout the project, consultants facilitate communication between stakeholders, regularly present findings, and adapt recommendations based on feedback. This collaborative approach ensures solutions are both analytically sound and tailored to client needs.

What does an economics consultant do?

An Economics Consultant provides expert analysis and advice on economic matters to organizations, governments, or legal teams. They use economic theories, statistical methods, and data analysis to evaluate business strategies, forecast market trends, and assess the impact of policies or regulations. Their work often supports decision-making in areas such as antitrust cases, mergers and acquisitions, financial disputes, and policy development. Economics Consultants may also prepare reports and testify as expert witnesses in legal proceedings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an economics consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Economics Consultant, you need strong analytical skills, expertise in economic theory, and typically a degree in economics or a related field. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering actionable insights and strategic guidance to organizations facing economic challenges.

Our Competition litigation consulting team has provided expert opinions on major antitrust legal actions against Big Tech (including Apple, Amazon and Facebook), Big Pharma, Big Finance and Big Agriculture. Meanwhile our original and innovative investigations into river sewage and Covid-19 have led to national press coverage.

Our Financial and Securities Litigation team has worked on many of the most significant global cases involving securities fraud, market manipulation and financial cartels of the past decade, contributing expert opinions, and advising global law firms, institutional investors and regulators.

About this Role

  • Conducting detailed economic analysis of antitrust allegations as part of the delivery of Fideres' consulting mandates
  • Writing comprehensive reports that summarize the key findings of our analysis in a simple, succinct manner
  • Proactively managing client relationships
  • Helping to manage the team to ensure innovative ideas are researched and delivered for our project pipeline
  • Presenting and explaining proposals to potential clients
  • Helping to track and allocate resources to achieve business unit goals
  • Coaching the team on Fideres's processes, writing styles and analytical methodologies
  • Maintain up-to-date records in Fideres's CRM and Project Management systems
Key Skills and Attributes

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience at a competition agency, in a sector regulator, or in an economic consultancy
  • Masters in Economics or the equivalent qualification, with evidence of knowledge and study of competition economics. A PhD in Economics would be highly desirable
  • Experience of dealing directly with clients (such as law firms and/or regulators)
  • The ability to communicate effectively on complex issues in simple terms
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, proficiency in python or R would be desirable
  • Strong project organization skills, able to meet deadlines
  • A high level of integrity with a creative and curious mind
  • An interest in coaching, developing and collaborating with others
  • An appetite for networking and connecting people and problems

The base salary range for this role is between $150,000 and $220,000, with a competitive discretionary bonus typically included in the overall package.
