Job description

Duties Description Mowing Crew - Facility Operations Assistants may work independently or on a crew to assist in maintaining canal equipment and structures, as well as the grounds and facilities at historic canal sites. A Facility Operations Assistant may be responsible for running heavy equipment, including commercial riding mowers and forklifts.
Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age and physically capable of performing the duties and assigned to the position. A driver license or Commercial Driver License appropriate to the types of vehicles operated may be required for some positions.
Additional Comments The New York State Canal Corporation (Canals), a subsidiary of the New York Power Authority, is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the 524-mile waterway for boating, recreation, tourism and agriculture. The New York State Canal System includes the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca canals, linking the Hudson River with the Great Lakes, the Finger Lakes and Lake Champlain. The 200-year-old NYS Canal System extends over 524 miles and plays important roles in New York's economic development, tourism industry and environmental stewardship.
