BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Economic Research and Analysis assist in ongoing analysis and presentation of New York State economic conditions and trend analysis, economic impact analysis, data collection and organization, and drafting of data-driven analyses for an executive audience.


WORK PERFORMED:

  • Support the collection and data and analyses oftentimes on a quick turnaround timeline.
  • Assist with the development of data sets relating to economic sectors, regional as well as industry -specific data, and compiling information into a comprehensive and straightforward summary for a general audience.
  • Ability to translate complex data and analysis into clear, compelling visual presentations—including PowerPoint decks, charts, and other public-facing materials—that are easily understood by broad audiences.
  • Assist in the tracking of key statewide and regional data, producing both routine and ad hoc executive-oriented and user-friendly economic briefings such as monthly dashboards, regional data snapshots, and other economic research projects as assigned.
  • Maintain and validate data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability across reports and analyses.
  • Provide data-driven analyses of key economic development issues including prominent and timely issues which have the potential to affect the New York State economy.
  • Contribute to evidence-based economic development policy making.
  • Oversee and undertake special projects or initiatives as needed.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level required: Bachelor’s degree.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • 3+ years of relevant full-time professional experience
  • Knowledge of economic development-related fields such as community development, economic incentives (loans, grants, tax credits), workforce development, public-private partnerships, research and development, innovation and commercialization and/or business marketing.


Competencies Required:

  • Communicating: Adept at converting data clear, professionally written summaries which are suitable for public consumption.
  • Time Management: Is skilled at managing multiple workstreams simultaneously, including time-sensitive requests.
  • Collaborating: Builds supportive, trusting relationships with colleagues internally and externally, and cultivates a diverse network of colleagues from which to solicit information, feedback and support.
  • Detail Orientation: Submits error-free, “zero defect” work products.
  • Project Management: Develops and attains reasonable project timelines, budgets, and objectives, and completes assignments on time.
