Kwaan Tech is seeking a highly qualified Economic Analyst to join our team in support of the Department of State (DOS) Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA), Office of the Comptroller (C), Oversight and Data Division (ODD). The Economic Analyst will focus on analyzing consular data, identifying trends, and developing forecasts to support resource planning and program optimization. The ideal candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in data analysis who is able to successfully create economic analyses, provide recommendations for resource allocation, and generate visual reports to inform decision-making at the Bureau. This position requires an Active Secret Security Clearance.
The salary range (or hiring range) for this exempt position has been established at: $140,000- $145,000.
The above salary range represents the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. In addition, we offer a variety of benefits including company holidays, paid time off, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, as well as 401K with company match. This job will be posted until filled or withdrawn.
Core Duties:
  • Compile and comprehend a vast amount of visa, passport, and consular data and metrics and provided specialized advice based on the application of economic theory and knowledge
  • Prepare and present information on consular functions domestically and overseas, including workload and resource data, budget and financial data, management controls, and staffing allocations
  • Develop and maintain forecasts of future consular fees, revenue, and overall workload demand
  • Provide various analyses that affect allocation of resources for the global consular enterprise
  • Study data and statistics and use an understanding of economic relationships to uncover and report trends
  • Perform a considerable amount of research and amass large amounts of information
  • Recognize indicators that affect the visa process and forecast data
  • Examine data to assess the feasibility of various scenarios
  • Other duties as required by the team and/or assigned by CA/C leadership

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of experience in analysis, including interpreting economic, geographical, and socioeconomic trends and data
  • At least four (4) years of specialized experience utilizing specialized business intelligence and analytics software such as Tableau and Power BI
  • Experience with data analysis and data visualization
  • Intermediate/expert knowledge/experience of Excel, Power BI, Power Automate, and PowerApps
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Must possess a customer service approach, to include but not limited to people-first attitude, problem-solving, and maintaining the highest standards of personal/professional ethics
  • Expert at applying economic theory and knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to study data and statistics and use understanding of economic relationships to uncover trends and forecast data
  • Demonstrated ability to draft advanced-level reports and graphics
  • Ability to perform cumbersome tasks, such as repetitively reviewing desperate and ad hoc data in lists
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a member of the team to effectively interact with personnel at all levels
  • Knowledge of and skill in use of various virtual meeting platforms to include Microsoft Teams, Webex, and Zoom with the ability to adapt to using other various remote work tools
  • Desired Qualifications:
    • Department of State budget/finance experience (preferred)
    • Working knowledge with Department financial systems (preferred)
    • Understanding of consular activities (preferred)
  • Must possess and maintain an Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid U.S. passport
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
