Job description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Application Scientist to join our Bioprocessing team. This role will serve as a key resource for Ecolab's customer base and provide technical support to help customers develop efficient purification processes leveraging Purolite Resin's innovate portfolio of chromatography products. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert for Purolite Resins, partnering closely with Sales Managers, Product Management, Quality, and R&D teams to position Purolite Resins as a powerful, high-performance solution for downstream purification workflows.
What You Will Do:
  • Provide technical leadership by demonstrating application and theoretical knowledge of chromatography and downstream purification to design-in Purolite Resins.
  • Deliver scientific support for purification activities at all scales-including discovery, process development, pilot, and cGMP manufacturing-as well as column packing assistance.
  • Work directly with end-users to understand purification objectives and address critical challenges.
  • Partner with Sales Manager to develop new opportunities and unlock maximum territory value.
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking abilities, effectively communicates technical issues, addresses complex problems, and recommends scientifically sound, efficient, robust, and scalable solutions.
  • Develop and maintain business and technical relationships with accounts through effective communication on a frequent basis
  • Consistently maintain the CRM to reflect the current state of development within the territory.
  • Strategically position Purolite Resins in the context of addressing customer needs and process solutions.
  • Deliver technical seminars, training, hands-on bench work, product demonstration, conference engagements and technical customer service activities to support Commercial objectives.
  • Internal cross-functional responsibilities include liaising with Product Management, Marketing, R&D, and other functions.
  • Willingness to travel within the territory on a regular basis

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Commutable distance from Boston, MA
  • BS required in biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, biotechnology, biology, chemistry
  • 5 years of relevant direct chromatography development experience in Process Development (PD) and/or MSAT
  • Strong fundamental and practical knowledge of chromatographic techniques in protein/ large molecule purification.
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time
  • No Immigration Sponsorship available for this role

Preferred Responsibilities:
  • MS or PhD preferred
  • Ability to operate and interpret data from an AKTA or alternative bench-scale chromatography development system and/or automated high throughput development systems, such as Tecan.
  • Experience in small-scale, pilot-scale and large-scale chromatography operations
  • Knowledge of analytics used to support purification development activities including HPLC, ELISA, SDS-PAGE and spectroscopy and proficiency to interpret data
  • Understanding of Design-of-Experiment (DOE) and/or statistics
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the Biopharmaceutical/ Biotech industry.
  • Experience with small-scale, pilot-scale and large-scale column packing.
  • Experience in non-GMP Pilot plant and cGMP production operation.
  • Experience with filtration and other downstream unit operations.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and manage multiple priorities at one-time.
  • Experience working in an external-facing role (FAS, Product Specialist, etc.)

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range
The total Compensation range for this position is $157,900-$236,900 which includes base pay and target incentive based on performance, per plan terms. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
