How much do eco therapy jobs pay per year?
What is an eco therapy?
An Eco Therapy job involves using nature-based activities to support mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Professionals in this field guide individuals or groups through outdoor experiences such as gardening, animal-assisted therapy, or forest bathing to reduce stress and improve overall health. They may work in healthcare, counseling, education, or conservation, integrating environmental awareness with therapeutic practices.
What does a typical workday look like for an eco therapist?
A typical day for an Eco Therapist often involves leading individual or group therapy sessions outdoors—such as in parks, forests, or gardens—using nature-based techniques to support clients’ mental and emotional well-being. You may spend time assessing clients’ needs, planning activities like guided walks or mindfulness exercises, and ensuring safety during sessions in natural settings. Collaboration with other mental health professionals and continual professional development are also common. The role often requires a flexible schedule to accommodate clients and seasonal variations, making adaptability an important part of the job.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in eco therapy, and why are they important?
To thrive in Eco Therapy, you need a background in psychology, counseling, or social work, combined with knowledge of environmental science and natural healing practices. Certifications such as counseling licenses or specialized eco-therapy credentials, as well as familiarity with outdoor safety and group facilitation tools, are often essential. Outstanding communication, empathy, and adaptability help practitioners connect with clients and effectively guide nature-based interventions. These competencies are crucial for creating safe, transformative experiences that promote mental wellness through interaction with the natural environment.
