Crisis Response Manager

Location: South Hill, VA

Job Type: Full-Time

Shifts: 12-hour shifts (8:00 AM-8:00 PM or 8:00 PM-8:00 AM), including weekends and holidays as scheduled. Participation in an on-call rotation may be required based on program needs.

Job Summary:

The Crisis Response Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for crisis intervention services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, recovery-oriented behavioral health care for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use crises. This position supervises crisis response staff and oversees crisis stabilization programs, mobile crisis services, and emergency behavioral health operations. The manager collaborates with hospitals, law enforcement, courts, emergency departments, and community partners to ensure timely crisis intervention, regulatory compliance, and continuity of care. This role requires strong clinical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. As an essential services position, occasional evening, overnight, weekend, holiday, and inclement weather coverage may be required.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead Crisis Services Operations: Oversee the daily operations of crisis response services, including mobile crisis, crisis stabilization, emergency services, and crisis receiving programs to ensure safe, effective, and timely care.

  • Supervise and Develop Staff: Provide clinical and administrative supervision, coaching, scheduling, performance evaluations, consultation, and professional development for crisis response personnel.

  • Conduct Clinical Assessments: Perform or delegate crisis evaluations, emergency psychiatric assessments, pre-admission screenings, and independent evaluations while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and clinical standards.

  • Coordinate Community Partnerships: Collaborate with hospitals, emergency departments, law enforcement, magistrates, courts, and community agencies to facilitate crisis intervention, stabilization, and continuity of care.

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Monitor documentation, quality assurance, utilization reviews, data reporting, policy compliance, and adherence to state behavioral health regulations and organizational standards.

  • Provide Training and Program Support: Develop and deliver staff training on crisis intervention, mobile crisis services, commitment hearings, emergency procedures, and clinical best practices while supporting program development and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support Direct Crisis Intervention: Provide backup clinical support during high-volume periods or staffing shortages, participate in supervisor on-call rotations, and assist during emergency situations, holidays, weekends, and agency closures when required.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or another closely related behavioral health field.

  • Strong knowledge of behavioral health crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, and recovery-oriented care.

  • Comprehensive understanding of emergency behavioral health services, crisis assessment, and risk management.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience providing behavioral health crisis services.

  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience managing crisis response or behavioral health staff.

  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe mental illness and substance use disorders.

  • Experience conducting crisis assessments, emergency evaluations, and coordinating crisis stabilization services.

  • Experience working collaboratively with hospitals, emergency departments, law enforcement, courts, and community agencies

Licenses Required:

  • Active, unrestricted Virginia Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) credential, including one of the following:

  1. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

  2. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

  3. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

  • Valid Virginia driver's license with a safe driving record.

Certifications Required:

  • Certified Prescreener (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).

  • Mobile Crisis Response certification/training (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).

  • Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training.

  • Knowledge of Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDO) procedures.

  • CPR and First Aid certificate
