Position: Billing Applications Specialist

Company: Diligent Billing Management

Location: Charlotte, NC – Remote (EST & CST)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reporting to: Billing Applications Manager

At Diligent, we’re looking for a Billing Applications Specialist to help us ensure our billing processes run smoothly and efficiently. This role plays a critical part in supporting our IT Billing department by managing billing applications, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data accuracy across multiple platforms. If you enjoy problem-solving, working with data, and supporting billing teams with technology, this is the role for you!


What You’ll Do
  • Maintain, implement, and troubleshoot billing applications with a focus on NextGen EPM software.
  • Import and correct daily interface files from hospital systems and manage data entry for failed files.
  • Upload and process electronic claim files, insurance verification, and ERA reports.
  • Review and resolve failed claims within the clearinghouse, mapping payers to electronic payer numbers.
  • Manage outsourcing of daily self-pay encounter billing, bad debt files, and reconciliation reporting.
  • Retrieve payment files from credit card vendors and process reports for batching into eBridge.
  • Resolve or escalate tickets, ensuring clear communication with internal teams and external customers.
  • Support QA testing, auditing, and development of electronic billing applications.
  • Monitor dashboards and reporting trends, flagging issues to the Billing Applications Manager.
  • Act as backup to team members and manager when needed.
What You Bring
  • Education: High school diploma required; Associate degree in Computer Science preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 2–3 years with practice management software and Excel (required).
    • Experience with NextGen EPM, Availity, or Epic (preferred).
    • IT Support/Helpdesk background a plus.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Strong troubleshooting skills for medical software applications.
    • Understanding of healthcare privacy regulations (HIPAA) and HL7 interfaces.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Strong attention to detail, communication, and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
