The Frame Shop Assistant supports the daily operations of the Custom Frame Shop by assisting with custom framing production, customer service, organization, and general shop duties. This position provides an opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience in retail operations, craftsmanship, customer service, and production while supporting the mission of Eastern Carolina Vocational Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Production
Assist with assembling custom picture frames.
Cut and prepare matboard using manual and computerized mat cutting equipment after appropriate training.
Assist with fitting artwork into frames.
Prepare backing, mounting materials, and hardware for completed projects.
Assist with glass cleaning and preparation.
Help package completed framing orders for customer pickup.
Organize framing materials, moulding, mats, glass, hardware, and supplies.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Assist with inventory counts and restocking supplies.
Learn proper operation of framing equipment under supervision.
Retrieve battery inventory from the warehouse storage area ("battery cage") to restock the retail display and fulfill customer purchases as needed.
Customer Service
Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
Assist customers as directed by the Assistant Manager.
Help customers carry completed orders when needed.
Answer telephone calls and take messages.
Use Frame Shop software to look up and enter customer projects.
Contact customers regarding completed orders when requested.
Maintain a positive shopping experience for all customers.
Administrative Support
Organize customer work orders and project files.
Assist with order preparation and documentation.
Help prepare promotional displays and showroom merchandise.
Assist with seasonal projects and special events.
Perform general office and shop support duties as assigned.
Other
Follow all ECVC safety policies and procedures.
Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service.
Work cooperatively with coworkers and individuals with disabilities.
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by the Assistant Manager or Marketing Manager.
