Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Cashier plays a key role in the expedition of service at Sixth and Waller at the East Austin Hotel. They are responsible for greeting all hotel, bar and restaurant patrons as they enter the restaurant area.  The Cashier must be extremely knowledgeable on restaurant and bar menus. The Cashier will handle both cash and credit transactions and will be proficient with the point of sale system.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet all guests to Sixth and Waller at East Austin Hotel
  • Answer any questions guests may have regarding food and beverage at EAH
  • Have advanced knowledge of all menus
  • Assisting customers with locating items
  • Providing advice or recommendations on food and drinks
  • Assisting guests with directions within the hotel and surrounding areas
  • Proficient with the Aloha POS system – Enter orders, note any modifications or allergies, process cash and credit transactions
  • Collecting payments and ensuring all prices and quantities are accurate
  • Issue receipts, refunds, credits and change
  • Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure amounts are correct.
  • Balance the cash register and generating reports for credit and debit sales.
  • Proficient with table finding software (pucks)
  • Sincerely engage with guests to make them feel welcome and comfortable
  • Answer phones, take to-go orders
  • Assist with bussing tables and running food when appropriate
  • Keep a clean and neat work station
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with MOD, Chef, Service Support and Bartenders
  • Complete all necessary opening and closing side work
  • Have a thorough understanding of table numbers and positions
  • Have a thorough understanding of EAH garage prices and policies and be able to explain them to guests
  • Resolve and or escalate guest complaints

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly
  • Must be able to evaluate and choose alternate courses of action quickly and accurately
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary
  • Must have the ability to gather information from all sources available and know how to use this information to best resolve a problem or need
  • Must be effective in listening to and understanding the concerns and issues raised by other employees or customers
  • Must communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
  • Maintain regular attendance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers and patrons
  • Must be flexible to provide assistance to management team in a 24/7 operating environment 
  • Must have reliable transportation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma / equivalency or at least two years of progressive experience in a customer service, hospitality or a related field required
  • Must possess English Language Skills sufficient to fully comprehend job assignments, including the ability to read, write and communicate in fluent English
  • Requires a minimum of two years of experience in Recruiting, Onboarding and Office Administration 


 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working extended hours may be required as needed
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use repetitive wrist and finger movement, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Work on a computer for extended periods of time, approximately 8+ hours per day
  • Lifting (rarely) 20 – 25 lbs.
