Salary Range:  The full pay range for this role is $25.00 to $38.00 per hour, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $27.00 to $32.00 per hour.  We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to, relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.

Scope of Job Under specific direction from the site manager and supervision of an experienced technician, this position will assist experienced technicians with conducting maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repair of wind turbines and/or photovoltaic power and energy storage systems. Learns and applies EDF Core values: safety, teamwork, respect, passion, transparency, good sense, and accountability.

Renewable Energy Technician 1: Assists experienced technicians with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Focuses on learning and applying safety protocols.Works under specific direction and direct supervision.

Renewable Energy Technician 2: Performs preventative maintenance independently and under supervision of an experienced technician, conducts troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades. Responsible for independent preventative maintenance and may be asked to participate in the 24-hour "On Call" rotation.

Work Location:  Ivanhoe, MN.  Please note that this in not a travelling technician position.

Required Training: Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend mandatory four (4) week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.


Responsibilities:

80% - In the field:

  • Assists with maintaining company property and equipment in an efficient and safe manner.
  • In support of a technician 2 or higher-level technician, services equipment based on the type of equipment and manufacturer. Assists in performing routine maintenance. Assists with new equipment installation, and the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment.
  • Assists with testing electrical components and mechanical and hydraulic systems, and the collection of equipment data for testing and analysis.
  • Works safely under all circumstances and seeks guidance for any work for which they are unfamiliar or do not feel competent to perform safely.
  • Attends safety and technical training required for this position.
  • Respectfully works in a team environment and learns and applies EDF power solutions Core Values.

15% - Administrative duties, such as documenting completed jobs, implementing supply orders. Complete daily work orders, time tracking and any other required paperwork for the specific project/assignment.

5% - Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

100% of time is spent working in the renewable asset field. There is also marginal time spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment.

This position requires working on platforms or skids, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and the repetitive use of legs, arms, hands, and fingers. The employee will work eight (8) hours a day, forty (40) hours a week, and overtime and night shifts as required.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to:

  • Extreme weather conditions, including cold, heat, rain, wind, etc.
  • High voltage and stored energy
  • Moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Confined spaces
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Fiscal Responsibilities: All levels of the organization must be fiscally responsible on the company's behalf.


Qualification specific to Renewable Energy Technician 1

Education/Experience

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience within the renewable energy sector or an equivalent field

Qualifications specific to Renewable Energy Technician 2

Experience

2 to 4 years of experience in renewable energy or a similar discipline.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Knowledge/Skills

Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components. Basic understanding of schematics and correct use of a multi-meter. Familiarity with CSA Z462 / NFPA 70E.

Certification

  Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards and hold the following certifications (or equivalent): OSHA 10, GWO Basic Safety Training (BST), GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT), GWO CoHE, GWO Slinger and Signaler, NFPA 70E and 70B.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities required for both levels:

  • Ability to successfully complete applicable safety and technical training program for the entry level technician.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer knowledge.
  • Must possess a valid current driverโ€™s license and successfully meet organizational requirements to operate motor vehicles.
  • Knowledge of electronics and mechanical components and measurement devices is a plus.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand, read, write, and speak clearly in English.

    • Be able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and be able to reach with hands and arms.

    • Be able to stand, crouch, walk, and work for extended periods of time.
    • Be able to operate company vehicles (field trucks) on site and on public roads and highways.
    • Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Be able to work in an electrical-mechanical environment.
    • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights more than 91 meters (300 feet).
    • Able to work at heights, including climbing up and descending towers, entering nacelles and hubs at extreme heights.
    • Be comfortable with working in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain.
    • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
