Summary:
The Department of Social Work at Alabama A&M University is seeking a Director of Strategic Innovation and Distance Social Work Education to drive innovation and expand eLearning opportunities for its BSW, MSW and Ph.D. programs, and forge new global partnerships and initiatives. The Director will work closely with the Chairperson of the Department of Social Work to plan, develop, and implement eLearning programming and protocols.
The position demands visionary leadership in expanding digital education for programs within the Department of Social Work. Responsibilities include curriculum design, online program management, and integration of inclusive education strategies. This position demands an individual with substantial experience in online social work education program design. The ideal candidate will possess the strategic acumen to work collaboratively within the Department and with the Center for Distance Education and E-Learning (CDEeL) to implement program goals and provide oversight for Social Work eLearning program components. A background in teaching, curriculum/instructional design and online program management is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be both an inspiring and innovative leader, ready to contribute to the future of social work education within the Department of Social Work as it moves toward new horizons of academic distinction. Essential Responsibilities include:
โ€ข E-Learning Leadership: Spearhead the expansion of digital education for BSW, MSW, and Ph.D. programs.
โ€ข Educational Innovation: Develop and implement eLearning strategies for programs within the Department of Social Work
โ€ข Curriculum Design: Inform and support curriculum development in integrating eLearning and instructional design principles.
โ€ข Strategic Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Department Chairperson, Director of Social Work Programming & Professional Preparation, the Social Work Leadership Team, and the Center for Distance Education and E-Learning (CDEeL) to support program planning and development.
โ€ข Accreditation Standards: Support CSWE accreditation requirements and standards across social work programs.
โ€ข Program Management: Working collaboratively to implement program goals and provide oversight for eLearning program components.
โ€ข Evaluation: Ability to engage in assessment of eLearning programming.
โ€ข Global Partnerships: Work with the Department Chairperson to leverage eLearning capabilities to develop global educational programs
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
  • Terminal degree in Social Work or in Education or a related field, emphasizing technology integration in
educational settings
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • 2 years Post MSW experience
  • 3-7 years of experience in leadership roles within eLearning and online education in higher education.

  • In-depth knowledge of current and emerging trends in digital pedagogy, instructional design, and online learning technologies, including familiarity with AR/VR/Mixed Reality and AI applications in education.
  • Proven ability to manage eLearning components of online social work programs, consistent with CSWE standards for online education.
  • Proven ability to implement strategic planning and organizational change within an academic context.
