POSITION SUMMARY
The Speech Language Pathologist - CCC is a key position in identifying and creating IEP goals and treatment plans for students to foster communication, socialization and student's abilities to self-advocate. S/he communicates with the teaching team, parents, and other ALCA staff in supporting each student's individual needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer formal and informal assessments, screenings, and tests
  • Analyze and interpret assessment, screening, and testing information and make written reports and recommendations for services
  • Deliver speech services to students, including, but not limited to, oral motor, sensory feeding, augmentative communication (hi/low tech), social thinking, articulation, etc., to meet IEP goals
  • Responsible for the proper safety and maintenance of materials and equipment, including assistive tech, routine programming, back-up and shipping of devices for repair
  • Provide mentorship and feedback to a Clinical Fellow (CF) of Speech-Language Pathology as a CF Mentor, with appropriate ASHA credentialing, experience, and length of time at ALCA
  • Provide formal and informal training to parents, staff, and other professionals as appropriate to facilitate integration of speech therapy services into the students' daily programming
  • Make written recommendations for audiological/medical and related services evaluations (augmentative communication evals)
  • Plan and implement groups (speech and language, social, feeding)
  • Maintain ISBE and ASHA/ISHA credentialing/certifications
  • Collaborate on goal writing and plan evidence-based interventions for individual students and group activities
  • Participate on the IEP team and write IEP goals in accordance with ALCA procedures
  • Take and interpret data to adjust intervention strategies based on student performance daily, weekly, and quarterly
  • Attend meetings and trainings (ex: implementation, teacher late days)
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as occupational, music, and physical therapists, as well as life skills coach, hearing itinerant, teachers, BCBAs, etc.
  • Participate in field trips as assigned
  • As needed: Serve as bus monitor
  • Participate in intakes and implementation meetings
  • Complete and submit incident reports within 24 hours when required
  • Implement personal safety and crisis intervention procedures as needed
  • Follow dress code and wear ALCA-issued protective equipment during student hours
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, staff, and organizational information
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)
Education / Certification
  • SLP-CCC, PEL
  • Minimum of two years working with children with autism preferred
  • If providing supervision for the CF Mentor Role, the SLP-CC must meet the followingASHA requirements for CF Mentor Role:
    • Hold a current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) for the duration of the Clinical Fellowship,
    • Have a minimum of 9 months full-time (or the part-time equivalent) experience after earning the CCC-SLP,
    • Have completed a minimum of 2 hours of professional development in the area of supervision after earning the CCC-SLP
  • Experience with verbal and non-verbal students a must
  • Experience with low tech aug com (PECS, visuals, etc.) and dynamic display aug com (iPad, Nova Chat, Dynavox), sensory feeding (SOS), articulation, play, engagement, and social skills

  • Adherence to ALCA policies, procedures, organizational chart, and chain of command
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly uses hands, stands, sits, walks, runs, talks, hears, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs, balances, and reaches.
Additional requirements include:
  • Ability to lift or move students or materials up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to stoop, crouch, or kneel for extended periods (20+ minutes)
  • Ability to use PCM procedures daily
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work with physically aggressive students and prevent or reduce injury
  • Ability to participate in strenuous physical activity for at least 20 continuous minutes
  • Ability to visually scan environment when moving throughout the building, within the classroom and outdoors
