CNC Standard Operator
Grade Level: 4

The CNC Standard Operator located in Grandview, MO reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor and is responsible for using CNC and/or conventional machine tools involving operations where the operator is required to prepare, adjust and tear down tooling set-ups on machine(s) to which assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and install tooling necessary for standard parts production as directed to fill order requirements. This involves obtaining tool sets and setting up the machines to which they are assigned.
  • Operate machine tool after set-up, checking first pieces to assure conformance with prescribed dimensions and quality standards. This involves measurements using standard precision instruments or pre-set gages and blueprints prepared by the company's engineering staff.
  • Operate the machine after set-up or instruct another operator in proper operation/set-up of machine.
  • Select, remove, and replace indexable inserts. Sharpen the necessary cutting, drilling and boring tools using specialized sharpening equipment, or by hand.
  • Make minor CNC program adjustments, including: geometry and tooling offsets to maintain stated manufacturing tolerances.
  • Change cutting oils, clean and lubricate machinery as required. Use guards to prevent injury, oil splash, and unnecessary cleanup.
  • Care for hand tools, manufacturing devices and tooling related to assigned machine(s), storing as directed or in accordance with shop procedures.
  • Record production information as directed.
  • Use available safety equipment/guards and observe shop safety procedures. Keep the work area(s) neat, clean, and organized.

Requirements

Required Skills / Experience / Equipment Operation:

  • Must have sufficient experience and/or training in basic machine shop practices to operate and set-up CNC lathe(s), CNC machining Centers, milling machine(s), radial drill(s), and any light drill press (es) in accordance with shop drawings and instructions.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and direct operators.

Physical/Mental Essential Functions:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to reach above shoulders
  • Ability to walk back and forward thought-out facility
  • Ability to control operation of hand or foot
  • Ability to lift / carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to turn wrist frequently in repetitive motion
