Job Summary
Under direction of a Maintenance Foreman, performs duties essential to proper and safe operation of dust collector systems to produce quality cement at an acceptable production rate. Performs maintenance and repair duties on other plant equipment when necessary.
Job Responsibilities
  • Inspects plant dust collecting systems checking for leaks, build-up, damaged bags, fans, bearings, valves, and proper function of rotary air locks, tipping gates, motorized and weighted, timing systems.
  • Replaces work or damaged bags.
  • Replaces fans and shafts; repairs or replaces bearings, valves, and work pipe sections.
  • Removes material from screw conveyors and make necessary repairs which include gudgeons, screw sections, bearings, hangers, reducers, drives, and motors.
  • Inspects and adjusts and repairs hydraulic systems requiring a thorough understanding of principles or hydraulics.
  • Checks and adjusts rapping mechanisms.
  • Frees plugged lines and replaces air cylinders.
  • Operates vacuum devised to clean dust collector sections.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment other than dust collector systems when necessary.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety rules and practices.
  • Overhaul air cylinders, solenoid calces, diaphragm valves, and demonstrate understanding of operation of multiclone / cyclone dust collectors.
  • Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds. Safety equipment means clothing and apparatus including, but not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, back support belts, gloves, and respirators.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Equipment and Tools:

Utilizes a full range of hand tools such as hammers, files, chisels, punches, and wrenches. Uses rulers and taped in measuring and laying out work. Operates portable power tools such as drills, sanders, and jackhammers. Also operates mobile power equipment such as compressor, vacuum devices, rigging and welding equipment, shop equipment including saws, drills, punches, etc.
  • Materials and Parts Processed or Handled:

Collector bags, shafts, bearings, valves, gaskets, cylinders, etc.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, which necessitates the wearing of a respirator, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Heavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
