Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Duke Raleigh Head and Neck and Thoracic Medical Oncology team. The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience. They will work with a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care services. We invite you to apply to work with team of oncology caregivers who are dedicated to outstanding patient care.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis. Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations. Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities. Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications. Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection. Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care. Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members. Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners. See scheduled and unscheduled patients. Attend program required meetings. Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME. Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies. Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing. Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred. Certification Physician Nurse Practitioner Licensure and Certification Licensed in the State of North Carolina BLS required ACLS preferred License NP: Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP PA: Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA Both: DEA independent license with prescriptive authority required Experience 1+ years of APP experience strongly preferred. Job Hours Monday-Friday, 8 clinic sessions and 2 administrative sessions per week with flexibility to meet clinic needs. No weekends. No night call or weekend call.
