Job description

Proof of the Pudding is an award-winning catering company throughout the Southeast with a commitment to creating quality culinary concepts from scratch. This standard was upheld through the expansion into Sports and Entertainment Hospitality Services by providing elevated concessions and premium offerings to collegiate stadiums, PGA golf tournaments, International Boat Shows, Professional Sports Teams, & more.
Proof of the Pudding, operator of DUKE University hospitality and concessions, is looking for Catering Supervisors to help facilitate events by providing Front of House leadership and strong customer service on-site , at DUKE University events. We are offering competitive pay and on-the-job training at one of the most scenic venues in North Carolina.
This is seasonal/part-time work as business needs are dictated by athletic events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be a lead in your food service area while being a point of contact for guests and clients.
  • Ensure the setting of tables/buffets are accurate according to diagram and/or sample table.
  • Managing time effectively to ensure all BEO items are completed prior to service times.
  • Delegating tasks to team members based on their positions and talents.
  • Managing the team that is scheduled to run each event.
  • Work with the Catering Director to hire and train a well-qualified staff.
  • Assist with the day-to-day duties and monitoring of staff and banquet operations.
  • Ensure the client is communicated with and checked in on throughout the event.
  • Maintain good grooming and personal hygiene.
  • Implement controls for labor and operating expenses as directed.
  • Position may require irregular work schedules at various times and the performance of work assignments that may not be directly related to these job specifications
  • Help oversee equipment distribution, inventory tracking, organization and clean up of events.
  • Be a managerial presence at a variety of events.
  • Reporting to the Catering Director and performing any tasks assigned in order to execute a flawless event.

Performs other related duties as required.
Education and/or Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience leading a food & beverage team is required,
  • 1+ years of experience in related position
    • Knowledge of banquets and Front of House duties Positions such as Lead Server, Banquet Supervisor, or Floor Captain would translate well into this role
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Windows and Microsoft Office, & BEO Software
  • Knowledge of or readiness to learn applicable laws and regulations, which impact food and beverage operations and service.
  • ServSafe certified or is available to receive training.
  • Live within or near Durham, NC.

Work Environment
The work environment for this position will be event operations and working out of the Football Stadium or similar venues. This position will often move throughout campus and stadium grounds on different terrains.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of being in one place, moving through an event space, and traveling from venue to venue.
  • Bending, lifting, scooping, and carrying miscellaneous equipment and food items
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, such as but not limited to, lifting approx. 30+ lbs.
