Job description

The Memphis Sports & Events Center (MSEC) features indoor basketball and volleyball courts and is adaptable for other sports like wrestling, gymnastics, cheerleading, futsal, and more, as well as convocation, and commencement events. The Center also includes two cafe and a concessions areas while also offering catering and high volume boxed meals.
The culinary team at MSEC is seeking additional Cooks to work the line in the cafe and to provide culinary support in the kitchen. A great candidate for this position has experience cooking on a made to order kitchen line and enjoys fast, casual dining.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Setting up and sanitizing workstations.
  • Working a station in the cafe. Stations could range from grill, salad, food preparation, and more.
  • Cook orders as they come in according to POP recipes and safety standards
  • Assisting chefs in preparing food and attending to any culinary tasks that arise.
  • Supervising food and cooling room temperatures.
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitized kitchen.
  • Maintaining the highest level of food quality with your culinary team.
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen/food service areas.

Performs other related duties as needed.
Education and/or Experience
  • 1+ year of experience working as a line cook, experience in catering is preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of food preparation/food service with a strong understanding of the execution of recipes, reading production sheets, and completing tasks.
  • ServSafe certified or is available to receive training.

Specialized Qualifications:
  • Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner.
  • Excellent listening, communication skills, and customer service.

Work Environment
This position works mostly out of and mainly stay within Memphis Sports & Event Center. This position will spend majority of time in the kitchen working with typical kitchen equipment including knives, electrical mixers, ovens, hot pans, and more.
Uniform Requirements
Adherence to Company Uniform Requirements outlined in the Associate Handbook, uniform requirements outlined in your orientation guidelines.
Non-slip shoes are necessary.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of moving through and food spaces, and traveling throughout the kitchens/coolers/freezers
  • Bending, lifting, scooping, and carrying miscellaneous equipment and food items
  • Manual dexterity to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils.
  • Must be able to lift up-to 40 pounds at times.
