Job Summary
The part-time Drone Instructor's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning and delivering beginner-level drone pilot training designed to prepare students for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate exam. Provides instruction on drone fundamentals, aviation concepts, regulations, safety procedures, and responsible drone operation in a supportive learning environment. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Workforce.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Plans and facilitates beginner drone pilot training sessions.
  • Assists students in developing the knowledge and foundational skills needed to successfully pass the FAA Part 107 exam.
  • Introduces students to basic drone operations, safety practices, and pre-flight procedures.
  • Explains FAA regulations, airspace classifications, weather concepts, and other topics covered on the Part 107 exam.
  • Monitors student progress and provides feedback to support learning and exam readiness.
  • Maintains accurate attendance and training records.
  • Promotes a safe and positive learning environment for all participants.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate required.
  • Experience operating drones and/or providing drone-related instruction or training.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, responsibility, discretion, flexibility, and a commitment to student success.
  • Knowledge of FAA Part 107 regulations and exam requirements.
  • Ability to explain drone concepts and aviation topics to beginners with little or no prior experience.
  • Strong instructional and communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic drone operation and safety procedures.
  • Ability to assess student understanding and adapt instructional methods as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in various situations.
  • Ability to teach students with diverse learning styles, backgrounds, and experience levels.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Experience preparing students for the FAA Part 107 exam preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
