Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for the day-to-day Hansen Work Order Management database. Responds to citizens of Calvert County who call-in and request road maintenance or to follow-up with road maintenance jobs.

Essential Job Functions

Enters work orders called in by local citizens, other departments, and internal Highway Maintenance staff into the Hansen Work Order Database.

Communicates with citizens taking work requests and keeping them up-to-date on the latest attempts to complete necessary maintenance; directs public to proper personnel in the county or state agency.

Prepares status reports on incomplete work, work detail programs, mowing, and vehicle service.

Coordinates Community Service and work detail programs.

Tracks preventive service and other maintenance work needed on vehicles.

Tracks downed tree removal, tree trimming, roadside mowing, shoulder repair, roadside trash removal, pothole repair, guardrail/spraying, line marking, dead animal removal, sign installation, snow removal lane miles, and ditch line repair and pipe installation.

Requests and tracks Miss Utility tickets; makes calls to Water & Sewer, Comcast, SMECO, and Verizon in the event of damage lines are other problems.

Reviews copies, files, and maintains engineered plans indicating county rights-of-ways. Maintains the department's plan library.

Tracks special projects such as paving, tree trimming, line striping, and the county wide litter control program.

Tracks the training of personnel such as flaggers, green card (Natural Resources class on protecting the environment), and CDL drivers licenses.

Provides backup coverage of payroll and other personnel issues. Provides office coverage during weather and other natural disasters.

Other Duties

  • Road and highway maintenance procedures.
  • Hansen database procedures.

  • Maintaining files, logs, and other records.

Ability to--

  • Assist the public, clientele, and others to utilize services by explaining instructing and advising them regarding their needs and requests and the services provided.
  • Perform general office clerical work quickly and efficiently.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Deal effectively with the public.

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)

Training and/or Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience:

Two years of general office clerical experience, plus two years of customer service experience.

Licenses or Certificates:

None.

Special Requirements:

None.

Physical Demands:

Operation of keyboard devices for sustained periods of time.

Unusual Demands:

Work is subject to frequent interruptions.

Compensation Steps:

Pay rate: $27.26 per hour

Grade 719, temporary position, up to 40 hours per week
