Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Communication and Media at Montclair State University, the Director of Dreamscape Learn provides leadership, coordination, and operational oversight for the university's immersive learning initiative powered by virtual reality and experiential pedagogy. The Director leads the implementation and growth of Dreamscape Learn, supporting the integration of VR-based experiences into academic courses while advancing the University's commitment to innovation in teaching and learning.
The Director oversees the daily operations of Montclair's Dreamscape Learn studio, including delivery of VR learning experiences for courses, scheduling lab sessions for all courses assigned Dreamscape Learn modules, development of new immersive learning opportunities, and supervision of staff supporting program operations and instructional delivery. This role manages a small team responsible for facilitating VR sessions and supporting the expansion of immersive learning experiences for Montclair students and potential external partners.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct and oversee the strategic leadership for the Dreamscape Learn immersive learning initiative at Montclair State University.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Dreamscape Learn studio and VR learning environment.
  • Manage delivery of Dreamscape Learn virtual reality experiences for academic courses and student learning.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics for the Dreamscape Learn studio, including lab usage, course sessions, and open lab access for students.
  • Supervise and support staff responsible for operating the Dreamscape studio and facilitating VR sessions.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to integrate immersive learning experiences into course curricula.
  • Oversee the integration of Dreamscape Learn materials into the University's learning management system, including Canvas-based resources and student participation workflows.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with University partners to manage integration of Dreamscape Learn materials and student participation through Canvas and other learning platforms.
  • Support the development and implementation of new immersive learning experiences and programming, including the creation of new courses and modules.
  • Maintain VR equipment, studio operations, and related instructional technologies.
  • Serve as a liaison among faculty, academic departments, university leadership, and technology partners to support program success.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the reach and impact of Dreamscape Learn for students and potential external partners and clients, including corporate and academic.
  • Monitor program usage, assess outcomes, and support ongoing program improvement and growth.
  • Develop, recommend and manage budget for the Dreamscape Learn Initiative
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Management retains the right to change or add job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in immersive media, instructional technology, or related field.
    Demonstrated experience managing complex programs or initiatives, including operations, staffing, and budgeting.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and/or student teams.
  • Strong project management skills, including scheduling, logistics coordination, and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Familiarity with virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), or immersive learning technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage faculty, senior leadership, and external partners.
  • Ability to analyze program performance, assess outcomes, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendor or external partner relationships.

PREFERRED:
  • Master's degree (or higher) in a relevant discipline.
  • Direct experience leading or scaling immersive learning, VR/AR, or experiential education initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty to integrate technology into curriculum and instruction.
  • Experience in a university-based lab, studio, or production environment.
  • Background in storytelling, interactive design, game design, or immersive content development.
  • Experience developing new innovation initiatives.
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and educational technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with VR production pipelines, including concept development, design, and implementation.
  • Familiarity with assessment related to student learning outcomes.
  • Grant writing, fundraising, or partnership development experience.

Salary Range
$120,000.00-$135,000.00 Annually
