DREAM is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Flag Footballย Assistant Coach to support the execution of our middle school athletics program. The Flag Football Assistant Coach plays a critical role in ensuring consistent supervision, strong practice implementation, and a positive, structured experience for all athletes.

Coaches are key members of the Athletics team and ensure the continued excellence, growth and sustainability of DREAMโ€™s Athletics programs.

This role reports to the Dean of Student Life and works under the leadership of the Head Coach.

Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of structured, high-quality practices and lead when the head coach is not present/availableย 

  • Execute drills and activities with clarity, energy, and attention to detail

  • Reinforce expectations for behavior, effort, and participation

  • Reinforce key youth development competencies:

    • Teamwork

    • Sportsmanship

    • Self-regulation

  • Support students in managing emotions, resolving conflicts, and meeting team expectations

  • Model positive behavior and consistently uphold team standards

  • Maintain active supervision at all times (constant scanning, proximity, engagement)

  • Support safe arrival, transitions, and dismissal procedures

  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed consistently and without exception

  • Immediately communicate any safety concerns to the Head Coachย 

  • Accurately support attendance tracking for all practices and games

  • Communicate promptly with the Head Coach regarding any concerns or updates

  • Follow all internal protocols related to student eligibility, behavior, and participation

  • Maintain professionalism in all communication with students, staff, and families

  • Support recruitment and engagement of athletes

  • Assist with game-day logistics and team management

  • Execute responsibilities with consistency, reliability, and attention to detail

Core Professional Expectations

  • Demonstrate consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality

  • Follow the direction from the Head Coach and Athletics leadership

  • Adhere strictly to all safety, communication, and organizational protocols

  • Maintain professionalism and strong judgment at all times

Qualifications
  • 1-2+ years of coaching or youth program experience preferred

  • Experience working with school-age children required

  • Understanding of the sportโ€™s rules and fundamentals required

  • Ability to effectively support youth development and behavior management

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail

  • CPR/First Aid certification, a plus

  • Strong alignment with DREAMโ€™s mission and values

Commitment
  • Start date: August 17

  • End date: November 30
  • Days & hours:ย ย Monday-Thursday, 3-6pm

  • Note: DREAM full-time staff who are coaches are expected to report to their posts at 4pm

  • Evening and weekend games

  • Dates and hours are subject to change.

DREAM is hiring coaches for our East Harlem Middle School Location:ย 
  • East Harlem: 1991 2nd Avenue, New York, NY
  • Highbridge: 1162 River Avenue, Bronx, NY
  • Mott Haven: 20 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY

Practices take place at the school, or in surrounding areas in East Harlem or the South Bronx. Game locations vary

Compensation

The rate for incoming Assistant Coaches is $30 per hour. The rate for incoming Assistant Coaches who are also DREAM full-time staff is a $3000 per season stipend.ย Coaches are eligible for annual compensation increases based on tenure, in accordance with DREAMโ€™s compensation practices.
