SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Develop complex CNC programs for precision parts manufactured on various CNC Milling machines which include 2-1/2 through 5 axis capability. Exhibit a high proficiency with Mastercam Milling software to incorporate current options for high-speed material removal and best practices for machining processes. Work collaboratively with the Mill and Lathe programming teams utilizing the latest CAM, CNC, and tooling technologies to improve machining efficiencies. Oversee training and documentation of processes to create programs for CNC machining processes. This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and is subject to change or include other duties as assigned by management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Analyze drawings, part specifications, tolerances, and design data to generate complex CNC programs
  • Review and collaborate in the development of detailed manufacturing processes for machined parts
  • Plan and document fixtures with complete set up and machining instructions for repetitive part manufacturing
  • Prepare detailed setup instructions for each milling operation following FMI ISO work instructions
  • Generate machine programs and manage encoding for probing, engraving and special instructions to manage machining processes
  • Confer with set-up personnel and operators to oversee part set up and program prove-out in order to obtain first article approval
  • Revise programs to improve processes, instructions and eliminate errors or omissions on first run jobs
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned
  • Oversee training and implementation of current capabilities of Mastercam software used to create machining programs for manufacturing components for FM Industries
  • Implement and document Best Known Methods for utilizing programming software to create and manage all aspects associated with creating machining programs
  • Areas of focus include machine and tool path verification
  • Establishing use of detailed tool libraries for all work centers
  • Document FMI standards for Mill-Lathe Programming procedures
  • Conduct monthly meetings to review team programming actions
  • Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices.
  • Understand the importance of designing, building, and operating safe systems
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of basic safety work processes such as JSA’s and MOC’s
  • Demonstrate commitment in the successful EH&S management of chemical processes and facilities

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certificate of Training for Mastercam or equivalent CAM system for multi axes milling
  • GD&T certification
  • 6 sigma Green belt

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Certifications and/or Bachelor’s degree in Machine Tool Technologies or 5-7 years of experience programming complex precision parts
  • High level proficiency with Mastercam programing software and experience writing complex CNC programs that incorporate high speed machining techniques
  • Thorough understanding of probing systems and integration for process and tool monitoring
  • Experience and familiarity with horizontal mills, palletized manufacturing cells and cell controllers
  • Must be well organized and able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Computer literacy including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and CAD / CAM software
  • Organizational, analytical, and planning skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Ability to define problems, collect and organize data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to read and interpret complex documents
  • Ability to organize and manage complex projects
  • Ability to create and present presentations to large groups of people
