Maintenance Technician I & II

The Maintenance Technician role is responsible for keeping all production equipment running safely and consistently through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. This framework defines two levels Maintenance Technician I (MT1) and Maintenance Technician II (MT2) each with a distinct scope of responsibility, autonomy, and pay range to support clear career progression within the maintenance team.


Role Overview:

  • Maintenance Technician I (MT1): Execution-focused role. Works from defined procedures to handle known problems and routine maintenance. Escalates when complexity exceeds scope. Pay range: $20–$25/hr.
  • Maintenance Technician II (MT2): Problem-solving-focused role. Operates in ambiguous situations, identifies root causes, improves systems, and leads the reliability strategy for the facility. Pay range: $26–$32/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventive Maintenance Execution (MT1 & MT2): Perform scheduled PM tasks including lubrication, inspections, and adjustments on all production equipment. Maintain and update work orders and maintenance records in the Limble CMMS. MT2 additionally builds out, improves, and owns the overall PM program, identifying systemic gaps and failure trends.
  • Equipment Maintenance (MT1 & MT2): MT1 maintains punch presses, brake presses, Haeger insertion machines, deburring equipment, lasers, UV printers, pad printers, potting machines, packaging equipment, powder coat line (routine), CNC mills (basic upkeep), SMT and wave solder (basic maintenance), air systems (filters, drains, minor leaks), forklifts (non-major repair), and facility systems (lighting, drywall, minor repairs). MT2 holds full-system ownership of all MT1 equipment and additionally provides diagnostic-level support for CNC mills, SMT, wave solder, powder coat process, air compressors and distribution systems, electrical panels, and facility power infrastructure.
  • Parts Replacement and Troubleshooting (MT1 & MT2): Replace components including motors, belts, sensors, and valves using defined procedures. MT1 troubleshoots equipment issues using manuals and known failure patterns. MT2 escalates to structured root cause analysis (RCA) rather than trial-and-error part swapping, and makes informed repair vs. replace vs. redesign decisions.
  • Electrical Work (MT1 & MT2): MT1 performs basic electrical tasks including component replacement, basic electrical runs, and reading basic schematics, with strict lockout/tagout (LOTO) compliance no system-level diagnosis or redesign. MT2 diagnoses circuits and faults, traces control issues, works safely inside electrical panels, and understands load, power distribution, and system-level behavior across the facility.
  • Equipment Installation and Reliability Projects (MT2): Install new equipment with minimal supervision. Recommend and implement a spare parts strategy. Reduce downtime through permanent corrective actions and support the equipment reliability strategy in collaboration with operations leadership.
  • Training and Mentorship (MT2): Train and mentor MT1 technicians on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting approaches. Serve as the escalation point for failures beyond MT1 scope. Model safety practices and compliance with all maintenance protocols.
  • Documentation (MT1 & MT2): Update work orders, inspection logs, and maintenance records in Limble. MT1 reports recurring or unresolved issues to MT2 or the maintenance supervisor. MT2 documents complex repairs and RCA findings for repeatability and knowledge transfer, and provides reporting on downtime trends and program effectiveness.
Requirements:
  • MT1: High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in a related field preferred.
  • MT2: Associate degree or technical certification in industrial maintenance, electrical technology, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • MT1: 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment. MT2: 3+ years, including demonstrated hands-on mechanical and electrical systems experience.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals and basic schematics (MT1); proficiency reading electrical schematics, control diagrams, and equipment documentation (MT2).
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and CMMS systems such as Limble (MT1); demonstrated ability to build, manage, and improve PM programs (MT2).
  • MT2: Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems at a systems level, including root cause analysis (RCA) methods.
