Dram Engineer information
What are DRAM Engineers?
What is the difference between Dram Engineer vs Memory Engineer?
| Aspect | Dram Engineer | Memory Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields; certifications like IEEE are common | Similar educational background; often holds certifications in memory design or semiconductor manufacturing |
| Work Environment | Design labs, semiconductor fabs, R&D centers | Design labs, semiconductor manufacturing facilities, R&D centers |
| Industry Usage | Memory chip companies, electronics manufacturers | Memory chip companies, electronics manufacturers |
| Job Focus | Design and optimize DRAM modules, ensure performance and reliability | Design and develop various types of memory, including DRAM, SRAM, Flash |
Both Dram Engineers and Memory Engineers work in similar environments and industries, often sharing educational backgrounds and certifications. While Dram Engineers focus specifically on DRAM technology, Memory Engineers may work on a broader range of memory types. The roles are closely related, with overlapping skills in semiconductor design and testing.
How does a DRAM Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during the memory development process?

Job description
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
The Data Center Workload Engineering (DCWE) team sits at the intersection of real-world data and future innovation. We translate how modern data centers actually run into insights that shape next-generation memory and storage products. If you enjoy solving complex systems problems and learning from real customer environments, this is a team where your curiosity and perspective will make a visible impact.
This role is a hands-on systems architect position focused on building forward-looking models that guide Micron's SSD strategy. You will use real workload data and deep system knowledge to simulate tradeoffs across large-scale cloud environments and influence product direction. The work is high-impact, highly visible, and ideal for someone who understands hyperscale infrastructure and wants to shape what comes next.
Responsibilities:
- Design and evolve a data center-scale logical model to evaluate future SSD product scenarios
- Integrate workload data, telemetry, and benchmarks into performance, power, and cost models
- Model hyperscaler tradeoffs across compute, memory, storage, and interconnect to inform product strategy
- Analyze AI infrastructure components including GPUs, DDR5, HBM, CXL, and NVMe storage systems
- Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership and partner cross-functionally across architecture and engineering
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 10+ years of experience
- Experience working in hyperscale data centers or large cloud environments with understanding of infrastructure at scale
- Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or similar for building modeling and analysis tools
- Deep knowledge of data center architecture including compute, memory, storage, power, and interconnect systems
- Experience communicating complex technical insights to executive stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- Experience building system-level performance, power, or cost models using real-world data
- Background in SSD or DRAM engineering, characterization, or performance analysis
- Familiarity with simulators or platforms such as QEMU, gem5, Simics, PCIe, or memory subsystems
- Track record of building internal tools or contributing to systems architecture or performance research
