(Senior) Originator Downstream, Iberia

Statkraft

Casar, NC • Hybrid

Full-time

Job description

Company Description

Statkraft Markets (Origination):

Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. Today, we are Europe's largest renewable energy producer and a global company in energy market operations.

The business area Markets is responsible for commercially optimising and developing Statkraft's flexible generation portfolio as well as providing industry-leading market solutions to customers via our Trading & Origination (T&O) unit.

As part of the T&O area, the Origination division creates value for our customers and the societies we operate in. We continually innovate, putting renewable energy to work in new ways, even as the market structure and regulatory environment evolves. Origination operates as a long-term structured trading desk, with end-to-end ownership of risk and P&L from deal origination through execution, supported by dedicated portfolio management capabilities.

Iberian Origination:

Within the Southern European Origination division, the Iberian Origination business concludes non-standard, structured and often complex wholesale transactions in Spain and Portugal. We have been a first mover on long-term PPAs in Spain, and across our countries of responsibility we have by now contracted more than 100 long- and short-term wind and solar PPAs. The business is planning to significantly grow its business in regional and product scope over the next years.

The responsibilities within Southern European Origination are split between Origination Iberia (Madrid), Origination France (Paris), Origination Italy (Milan), and Portfolio Management (Dusseldorf). The Origination teams focus on originating, structuring, and negotiating value-adding transactions and have P&L responsibility, while Portfolio Management is the custodian of the portfolios - responsible for valuing and wholistically managing all portfolio exposures in the market, as well as providing the model, data, tools and process landscape fundamental to our activities.

The Southern European Origination business model is unique in that complete commercial responsibility for managing risk resides within the business. Local origination and portfolio management closely collaborate on a joint "one team - one PnL" philosophy per region - that is, we all have "skin in the game".

Job Description

The (Senior) Originator Downstream is a role within Iberian Origination, reporting to the Head of Downstream Origination. The role is focused on originating and executing downstream commercial opportunities in the Iberian market, contributing to value creation through bespoke supply solutions, such as Renewable PPAs to Corporates, Industrials and Retailers, including BESSenabled and hybrid solutions, as well as other bespoke downstream products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate downstream commercial opportunities with a clear focus on value creation and contribution to PnL, working closely with Portfolio Management on deal structuring, pricing and optimisation.
  • Lead the origination and negotiation of individual transactions, including Renewable PPAs, BESSrelated and hybrid solutions, and other tailored downstream products.
  • Proactively leverage and expand a strong personal network of corporates, industrial customers and retailers to originate new business opportunities.
  • Analyse the Iberian power market, regulatory environment and competitive landscape, translating insights into concrete origination leads, deal ideas and business cases.
  • Manage transactions endtoend from initial idea through internal approvals, contracting and implementation, ensuring highquality execution across ETRM, CRM, scheduling, pricing and reporting systems.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in line with internal policies, risk frameworks and commercial governance, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues within Origination, Portfolio Management, Risk, Legal and other support functions to ensure efficient deal execution and portfolio alignment.
Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you demonstrate strong commercial judgement and a clear understanding of how value is created through downstream origination. You are comfortable influencing commercial outcomes at transaction level within defined governance and operating with an entrepreneurial yet disciplined mindset. You communicate with credibility at senior stakeholder level, actively contribute ideas to product development and pricing approaches, and take ownership for your individual origination pipeline and deal execution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years' experience in a front-office origination, trading or structuring role, with exposure to PnL responsibility. For Senior Originator level, the role requires a demonstrated track record of independently originating and executing complex transactions and contributing consistently to portfolio performance with tangible PnL targets achieved autonomously.
  • Strong experience with Renewable PPAs, structured power contracts and industry standards (e.g. EFET, ISDA).
  • Solid understanding of battery energy storage systems (BESS) as part of integrated and hybrid commercial solutions.
  • Very good understanding of the Iberian power markets, including wholesale and relevant ancillary services.
  • University degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Professional fluency in English.
  • Native Spanish is required.
