Your Mission in Action
The Residential Dorm Supervisor is responsible for supervising residents and maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment that meets the individualized care and personal development needs of the residents in accordance with Agency standards, state licensing standards, and other federal, state and local regulatory requirements. The Residential Dorm Supervisor also oversees other direct care staff activities associated with the implementation and management of a therapeutic adolescent environment and assists with the creation and management of the designated shift routine for assigned area. Assist in the coordination between the milieu and other disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and guide direct care staff ensuring proper execution and adherence to administrative and programmatic policies and procedures; adherence to all standards and regulations including always maintaining proper staff to resident ratio coverage which may include being in ratio when necessary and promptly communicating staffing needs or issues to Program Manager and/or Manager on Duty
- Maintain awareness of resident behavior, set appropriate behavioral limits, and proactively intervene to prevent or de-escalate crises using verbal redirection and agency-approved interventions based on individualized treatment plans, while demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and accurate documentation in high-stress situations
- Document and immediately notify appropriate personnel i.e., Maintenance, Nurse, On Call, Program Management to report any safety hazards on facility grounds, violations and/or concerns including staff/youth injuries, allergic reactions as well as other safety concerns
- Verify and ensure that all documentation is correctly completed prior to the end of shift. Documentation includes but is not limited to progress notes, incident reports, communication logs, sleep logs, medication records (as needed) and precaution logs
- Collaborate with management, clinical staff, and volunteers to achieve program goals, foster positive relationships, and deliver high-quality services. Ensure proper implementation and compliance with individualized treatment plans, development strategies, and safety protocols. Support staff-youth interactions through effective milieu management, behavior guidance, and structured activities while demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and cultural awareness
- Develop and maintain a weekly activity schedule with a variety of therapeutic and life skills-based activities. Collaborate with other departments to ensure scheduled activity times are realistic and do not overlap with scheduled therapies. Ensure dorm staff have the necessary supplies, confirm that youth understand activity expectations, and verify that dorm staff are aware of the specific supervision level required for each activity
- Maintain awareness of all dorm activities and locations at all times through regular walkthroughs, radio checks, and other established monitoring methods, ensuring dorms are adhering to their posted daily schedules and address any exceptions as needed
- Provide backup services and assistance to other dorms and programs as needed including passing medication to residents in accordance with their treatment plan and as prescribed by the clinical team
- Coach and support staff to ensure they have the necessary tools and resources needed to optimize performance, ensure established program goals, and achieve operational excellence.
- Communicate with direct reports in periodic one-on-one meetings
- Organize and deliver regularly scheduled staff meetings to communicate present, on-going, and future updates of pertinent information, projects, and initiatives
- Work closely with management team to interview, hire, and onboard new employees who are strong cultural fits for Upbring
- Work in collaboration with leadership and the People and Culture Team to arrange training; when needed, coordinate and/or provide in-service training for staff development
- Regularly review employee performance, including goals and progress, to provide developmental feedback: use applicable agency development tools to facilitate growth and development in staff
- Draft and issue the 90-day and annual evaluations, along with supporting documentation, as per established procedures; work in collaboration with staff to set goals during evaluation periods
- Other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older per licensing requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- One (1) year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents (9 months if a current/former Upbring RTC employee)
- Familiarity with basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to enter information into a computer in a concise and understandable manner
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Ability to work both in a team environment and independently
- Ability to use good judgment, think and react rationally and calmly in difficult and stressful situations
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse staff and resident population
- Ability to work extra shifts on business need
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work, Social Services, Human Services, or closely related field
- One (1) year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents
- One (1) year of supervisory employment experience
- Trauma Informed Care training and understanding of effects on trauma on development
- Knowledge of behavior modification and therapeutic settings
- Ability to provide conflict resolution and de-escalation methods and techniques to ensure the well-being and safety of youth
