Job description

Barnes & Thornburg LLP seeks a highly motivated Trademark associate to join our Indianapolis or Minneapolis office. Candidates must have 3-6 years of experience focused on U.S. and international trademark prosecution and portfolio management, clearance, maintenance and enforcement. Ideal applicants will have experience with UDRP actions and other domain name disputes, TTAB proceedings, licensing, counterfeiting and trademark and copyright litigation. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a nationally acclaimed Intellectual Property team providing strategic, business-focused guidance to top global brands and emerging innovators.

Qualifications and Credentials
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
  • 3-6 years of experience in trademark prosecution, portfolio management, and enforcement (U.S. experience required; international experience a plus).
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Conducting trademark searches and assessing clearance.
    • Preparing and prosecuting trademark applications before the USPTO.
    • Managing TTAB proceedings, including oppositions and cancellations.
    • Drafting and responding to cease-and-desist letters.
    • Advising on trademark use, policing, and brand protection strategies.
    • Handling copyright and domain name matters (UDRPs).
    • Strong research, writing, and communication skills, with proven client-management abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, cross-office team.
    • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Robust experience with trademark searching databases and tools, both subscription-based and free-of-charge.
