THE POSITION

Become a Clerical Assistant 2 with the Department of Human Services and help people access the support they need. This role provides a steady rhythm of meaningful tasks that keep the office organized and responsive. You will work with a dedicated team that values accuracy and professionalism. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports the daily operations of a busy office by handling applications, documents, and client communication. It requires steady focus, clear communication, and consistent organization. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Reception Support: Direct clients and visitors, manage appointments, and enter reception and rotation log data
  • Application Processing: Process COMPASS, emailed, faxed, paper, regular, crisis, and specialized applications including LIHEAP, JPO, OCY, Adoptions, and LTC
  • Document Management: Scan, date stamp, attach images, purge records, and handle mail and resource account documents
  • Communication Handling: Operate the switchboard, forward voicemail overflow, send email faxes, and maintain confidentiality
  • Case Updates: Process PA ACCESS card requests, caseload transfers, Inter-County transfers, MA112 newborn updates, and ARRC forms
  • Operational Support: Maintain equipment, attend meetings and training, and forward EARN referrals

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
  • Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
  • Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Erie, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,831 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
