Scope of Responsibility:
The Maintenance Manager directs the Maintenance department to perform equipment repairs, and schedules preventive maintenance for all production equipment. This position initiates operating improvements through innovative maintenance techniques and manages the preventative maintenance program through the plant and equipment.
Essential Duties:
  • Minimizes operating costs, and optimizes the utilization of technicians, materials and assets.
  • Partners with Production Supervisors to effectively perform maintenance and repair equipment failures.
  • Provides technical expertise to increase the number of zero breakdown machines and reduce breakdown reoccurrences.
  • Interfaces with operations, safety, facilities and planning at daily production meetings on status of all equipment.
  • Coordinates maintenance and improvement learning's by gathering and maintaining knowledge from "outside in" experiences.
  • Coordinates processes to develop and train maintenance, manufacturing technicians, and supervisors on how to effectively operate equipment.
  • Coordinates the Planned Maintenance (PM) process and technician resources to deliver reliable maintenance processes establishing critical equipment priorities and spare parts inventory status for all new equipment and modifications.
  • Drives improvements during equipment changes to deliver new procedures, breakdown reduction, root cause analysis, risk and hazard analysis toolkits and manages the reduction of breakdown reoccurrences using a tracking process.
  • Maintains an integrated maintenance master plan and works with Purchasing to manage costs.
  • Leads a team of Maintenance professionals across multiple operating shifts to ensure departmental policies and procedures are followed.
  • Promotes a working environment that exhibits strong communication and teamwork within and outside of the Maintenance Department.
  • Develops and ensures adherence to preventive maintenance activities for all manufacturing, logistical, and facility assets.
  • Ensures new, changed or obsolete equipment is properly monitored and preventive maintenance criteria and frequency are adjusted accordingly.
  • Monitors and measures equipment performance such as planned vs. unplanned maintenance activity, burden rates, mean time between failures, rate of return, maintenance costs and similar metrics.
  • Provides (or ensures provision of) strong technical expertise and training to Maintenance professionals.
  • Manages maintenance and repair work orders and ensures proper scheduling of priorities for Maintenance personnel and resources.
  • Ensures proper document control and updating of Maintenance policies, procedures, and records.
  • Assists the management team to ensure equipment is safe to operate and promotes environmental stewardship.
  • Actively seeks and evaluates new equipment or improvements to existing equipment that will lower operating expenses or future capital investments.
  • Manage Maintenance activities by way of CMMS or similar Maintenance Management software application.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Position Duties:
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive technical and mechanical knowledge in Maintenance-related skills and trades such as electrician, tool and die maker, machinist and fabricator, HVAC technician, plumber, and heavy equipment and material handling mechanic.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of heavy industry mechanical systems including Hydraulic, Pneumatic, and Electrical.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Heavy Manufacturing as a Maintenance Technician (or similar).
  • Experience in maintenance planning.
  • Basic computer skills: Data management and analysis; word processing; spreadsheets, email and internet.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience delivering reliability improvements in a fast changing manufacturing plant environment(s).
  • Minimum 2 years experience managing Maintenance Team Leads and employees.
  • Applied working knowledge of time, condition, and predictive based maintenance processes.
  • Demonstrated competency managing Technicians and/or Mechanics who are experienced primarily in machine maintenance as well as electrical in a manufacturing plant.
  • Experience with a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Experience managing Planned Maintenance practices.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, motivating and managing employees' skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours across all shifts as needed to meet business demands.
