A non-profit community healthcare organization serving Florida’s Treasure Coast region for over 25 years as an integrated approach to healthcare providing access to Adult & Pediatric Primary Care, Behavioral Health, and Pharmacy with delivery services. Medical Assistant

Candidates must be able to multi-task and function in a fast-paced environment while contributing to a positive environment for patients and staff. The candidate will participate in problem-solving activities, must be detail-oriented, sensitive to the patient’s needs, and require minimal supervision in order to function efficiently. All duties and responsibilities are essential functions and requirements and are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. This is a position of trust.

Communication

Good oral and written communication skills are required for this position. The information must be exchanged using tact and persuasion appropriately. The person in this position must be able to communicate with the patients, staff, and others; and contribute to a positive environment. Bilingual English Spanish, or Creole preferred, but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains professional behavior, and attitude towards patients, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Screens patients according to WFHC protocols (e.g., obtaining vital signs, height, weight, vision/hearing testing) and any other procedures directed by the Supervising Provider, Clinical Office Manager, or other Clinical Support Leaders.
  • Performs accurate charting in the medical records in accordance with WFHC policies and procedures.
  • Provides assistance to the care team, as needed.
  • Maintains exam rooms and work areas (i.e., keeping well-stocked, orderly, and clean, including disinfecting exam tables between patients as per infection control policy).
  • Performs phlebotomy/finger sticks as permitted by training.
  • Performs Covid Testing:
    • Setup testing site & maintain supplies
    • Manage scheduled & walk-in patients
      • Explain the reason for the testing, and procedure; provide education
    • Register patients in portals & office documentation: experienced knowledge of Athena EHR
    • Wear PPE
    • Collect anterior nasal specimens & collection guidelines
    • Oversee client flow; review & provide testing results
    • Sanitize & disinfect workspace
  • Administers injections according to position requirements (i.e., subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intradermal injections).
  • Performs procedures as ordered (i.e., EKGs, nebulizer treatments, pulse oximeter, ear lavages, obtain specimens for laboratory processing).
  • Able to accurately make/cancel/reschedule appointments in the computer appointment system. Able to follow up on appointments to determine patient compliance and contact patients to reschedule (no-show policy).
  • Maintain strict infection control (i.e., sterilizing instruments, performing procedures, needle disposal, etc.)
  • Performs in-house waived testing, after they are quality controlled, which may include some or all the following: pregnancy tests, Hemocue/Hemoglobin, glucometer, urine dip, hemoccult-stool, and throat swab. Each test will be done according to directions/procedures and results logged in patients’ medical records.
  • May occasionally need to travel from one clinic to another for coverage.

Secondary Duties

  • Understands all emergency protocols and responds accordingly.
  • Understands mandatory reporting of child/elder abuse policy and procedure.
  • Understands State requirements for reporting communicable diseases and offering special labs for pregnant patients.
  • Understands and utilizes the VFC program where applicable and documents accurately including 680 forms and vaccine administration records.
  • Counsels’ patients per treatment plan (i.e., diet, exercise, medication, etc.)
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Licenses & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Proof of Certified Nursing Assistant certification with (1) year of adult health experience or current certification as a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant entry level
  • Current CPR certification preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Level 2 background clearance required
  • Proof of immunizations for (1) Tdap, (2) MMR’s, HEP B vaccination, and either a history of chickenpox (varicella) or documentation of the varicella vaccine, a PPD Test is done once upon hire.
  • Will need to travel between our different locations.
