Night Auditor

The Night Auditor is responsible for managing all overnight front office operations, including guest services and financial reconciliation. This role serves as the overnight ambassador of the hotel, ensuring that guests receive warm, attentive service consistent with Forbes 5-Star standards, while also ensuring the integrity of the hotel's financial records. The Night Auditor plays a vital dual role in upholding the luxury guest experience and ensuring accurate end-of-day reporting and compliance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet late-arriving guests and facilitate check-in and check-out processes in accordance with Forbes 5-Star standards, with warmth, professionalism, and efficiency.
  • Respond to guest inquiries, requests, and issues promptly, taking ownership of resolution while maintaining discretion and courtesy.
  • Maintain a calm and welcoming presence in the lobby overnight, ensuring guest comfort and security.
  • Offer personalized service by recognizing guest preferences, noting special occasions, and delivering amenities as needed.
  • Conduct overnight room service or housekeeping requests when other departments are unavailable.
  • Accurately audit, balance, and consolidate all revenue transactions and charges for the day across departments (e.g., Rooms, F&B, Spa).
  • Reconcile the front desk's cash drawer, credit card transactions, and folios; resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and distribute daily revenue reports, trial balances, and accounting summaries for management review.
  • Post charges and payments to guest accounts and ensure all folios are accurate and ready for guest review.
  • Monitor the property for unusual activity, guest safety, and secure access points; coordinate with security as needed.
  • Complete property walks and ensure public areas are clean, orderly, and secure.
  • Handle emergency procedures such as fire alarms, medical issues, or inclement weather protocols in coordination with hotel leadership.
  • Prepare and deliver a detailed end-of-shift report for morning management and front office teams.
  • Ensure smooth transition by briefing the early shift on overnight events, outstanding guest needs, and operational priorities.
  • Log all incidents, maintenance concerns, and guest feedback in appropriate systems.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in front office or night audit operations at a luxury hotel; Forbes 5-Star or AAA Five Diamond experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with hotel property management systems and basic accounting procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and the ability to identify and resolve errors efficiently.
  • Professional demeanor, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work independently overnight.
  • Strong knowledge of Charleston's local area, dining, attractions, and transportation options.
  • Must be able to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays consistently.
  • Capable of responding quickly and calmly to guest emergencies or safety situations.
  • Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 10 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving goods throughout the loading dock, storeroom and hotel areas.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and climb step stools or ladders.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures (e.g., outside, dock, coolers, freezers).
  • Clear vision for reading labels, instructions, and reports.
  • Adequate hearing for effective communication via radios, traffic interaction and direct interaction with colleagues and guests.
