Job description

Amentum is currently seeking a DNA Examiner based in Forest Park, GA. This position will help support exploitation missions both CONUS (Continental United States) and OCONUS (Outside Continental United States) via deployment.

  • Examine evidence in consultation with firearms and latent print analysts (as needed) to ensure the proposed collection approach will not negatively impact collection of other forensic data from the evidence.
  • Ensure proper chain of custody is maintained.
  • Collect potential DNA samples from evidence using approved procedures designed to minimize the possibility of sample contamination. All samples shall be properly packaged, marked, and stored in preparation for extraction.
  • Use photographic equipment to capture still images of each evidence item and relevant key portions of the evidence item, or other exhibits, to support further analysis, conclusions, and documentation.
  • Generate STR DNA profiles from evidence and reference samples.
  • Analyze and interpret data using probabilistic genotyping software.
  • Annotate the case file documentation and generate reports, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results.
  • Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and worksheets.
  • Perform instrument maintenance.

Minimum Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience working independently in a forensic laboratory performing DNA analysis on criminal evidence and/or intelligence exploitation.
  • A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic related field with coursework in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics.
  • Independent experience must include the following:
    • Identification of bodily fluids such as blood
    • Ability to extract DNA using automated platforms
    • Generation of STR and Y-STR DNA profiles via standard and direct amplification
    • Experience with mixture interpretation using probabilistic genotyping software
    • Experience with submission of DNA profiles to databases
    • Experience in technical and administrative case file reviews
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance. (Please note: US citizenship is required to obtain a US Secret security clearance).
  • Must be able to obtain a US passport.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a medical assessment per customer requirements.

Compensation Details:

$65,000-$105,000
